Description

Palo Alto Link is the city’s easy, affordable, and eco-friendly service. We are a rideshare service that comes when you want, where you want — give us your pickup and dropoff addresses, and we’ll provide a few ride options. Choose the ride option that works best for you and get directions to a nearby intersection where a driver will pick you up. How it works: - Book a ride on your phone. - Get picked up on a nearby corner. - Share your ride with others What we’re about: SHARED. Our corner-to-corner algorithm matches people headed in the same direction. Aggregating people into one vehicle brings down prices and lowers CO2 emissions. Enough said. SUSTAINABLE. Sharing rides reduces the number of vehicles on the roads, bringing down congestion and CO2 emissions. On top of this, our vehicle fleet is a mix of hybrid and fully electric vehicles. With a couple of taps, you get to do your part to make your city a little bit greener and cleaner, every time you ride. Questions? Reach out at support-pal@ridewithvia.com. Loving your experience so far? Throw us a 5-star rating. You’ll have our eternal gratitude.

  • Weird solution to public transit

This service is better than nothing but the inconvenience of using it due to extreme wait times along with long drive times makes me wonder why this is seen as a better solution than just adding more buses and more routes
  • For too many notifications

They keep nagging me to take a ride, even when I am outside the pickup zone. I’ll take a ride when I have a reason to, not when the app tells me to.

The service does what it says it does. Gives you a ride from Palo Alto to anywhere in Palo Alto during daytime hours. The driver was courteous and came within 7 minutes. App is modern and shows driver location when picking up. Note that they do not go door-to-door, but “corner to corner”, so I had to walk to the end of my street to pick up the ride and walk the half block to my final destination. not an issue for me, but may be for people with mobility limitations. cost about half as much as an Uber Wood. The driver said they also serve kids and teens. So this is a good option for kids needing to get across town that carry a smartphone. They also accept cash.

Constantly misjudged times, the map system is uses takes longer routes than necessary. Have had a driver sit in the parking lot and not drive anywhere. No exaggeration have not made one train in time because of these reasons
  • No show. Stood me up many times.

Drivers didn’t come after taking tickets. I tried to report and no one picked up. Customer service didn’t call me back. Waste of time and I missed important meetings. 10-20 minutes of my wait time on side walk each time they stood me up.

What a great service! Way cheaper than commercial rideshare.
  • Best deal for ride sharing in Palo Alto

Easy and quick. I’ve never waited very long for a ride, and I find it to be reliable. I don’t mind a little walking, for such a reasonable fare. It’s also nice to know I can be picked up when I am ready, as opposed to trying to schedule everything based on a bus schedule.
  • Pointless if you try integrating with Caltrain

This app is useless if you are commuting via Caltrain. Due to its "integration" feature it automatically plots all routes to include any bus stop within 0.5 miles of your pickup location, regardless of where you're final destination is. It doesn't bother to weigh the amount of time it's going to take you to walk to/from each of these bus stops versus a direct route by one of the actual vehicles picking you up and getting you to your destination directly. For example, I'm trying to catch a ride from the Palo Alto Caltrain to the Stanford Eye Institute on Embarcadero. No matter where I place the pickup location, it keeps trying to reroute me to ride the 280 bus instead of actually picking me up directly. In every instance, the bus doesn't even get you there directly. You'll have to walk an additional 15 minutes after it drops you off. tl;dr: don't bother using this app if you are a commuter

15 min rides turn into an 45 min to hour long
  • Out of zone

The app is difficult to use since it will almost randomly decide your pickup location isn’t served, even if it’s shown as being within the zone and it has allowed you to choose that stop before. It won’t recommend a nearby location and instead you have to keep guessing cross streets close to your ideal pickup location until you’re able to find one. It would be much better if it recommended the closest possible pickup location instead of having to blindly guess.
