About Cook’s Illustrated Cook’s Illustrated, launched in 1993, is located just outside Boston where a team of more than three dozen test cooks, editors, and cookware specialists work in a 2,500-square-foot test kitchen. Our mission is to test recipes over and over again until we understand how and why they work and until we arrive at the “best” version of a particular recipe. The result, we hope, is the best version of a particular recipe, but we realize that only you can be the final judge of our success (or failure). As we like to say in the test kitchen, “We make the mistakes so you don’t have to.” Along with developing recipes, our test kitchen team exhaustively tests kitchen equipment and does blind tastings of supermarket ingredients to tell home cooks which brands to buy…and which to avoid. More than one million Cook’s Illustrated readers rely on Cook’s Illustrated reviews to make smarter decisions about which cooking products and ingredient brands to buy. Cook’s Illustrated recipes, testings, and tastings can be found in Cook’s Illustrated magazine and cookbooks, online at CooksIllustrated.com, or featured on our public television show, America’s Test Kitchen.

  • All Access doesn’t work

I bought the all access subscription for CI, ATK and CC. I downloaded the apps and was able to log into ATK. No luck with CI and CC. Called support and they said their apps do not work with Safari. I canceled my subscription as all I have is IOS and MacOS devices. If it doesn’t work with the native browser then why bother creating the app? My advice, don’t waste your time if the technology decisions do not allow it work properly.

Before you would get a video on the recipe. Right from the app. Now you need to scan a code, or take a picture. Scan the code from the picture to open it up on your iPad. Sign in on the website. Then it want you to buy another “ALL ACCESS’” subscription to watch the video. That is just wrong. They stop outing the scan code for the video in the last issue. But still cannot access the older videos.
  • Please restore interactive features

Folks, it’s been what, 2 years, that we iPad readers have been without the interactive features we purchased the iPad edition for. We’ve been patient and “understanding’ (as your notice says), but I think the clock has run out on that. Your team can’t still be working from home, and even if they are, that is no longer an acceptable excuse. Furthermore, there have been a number of review comments on here similar to this one and no one from CI has bothered to respond to any of them. Again, unacceptable. You really need to step up your customer support game in the digital space or don’t be in it at all. No one who can be reached via the CI customer support number or email ever seems to have any idea at all about the iPad edition and that is completely maddening. Please stop ignoring us. We’ve been patient long enough.

It’s a great magazine but it’s seriously embarrassing that the developers are still claiming that “working from home” is their excuse for just publishing a PDF of the print magazine without all the great interactive features that used to be included with the issues on the iPad app. I work in tech and literally everyone else figured out long ago how to design and code from home offices except the CI staff. Get it together guys!

Paid for the subscription to the magazine through App Store and still can’t view any of the magazines. Quit the app and restarted it even rebooted my iPad and still can’t view the magazines. Unsubscribed and deleted the app.
  • ATK is too greedy

I already subscribe to cooksillustrated.com and apparently they want more money to actually use this app! I used the old app a lot but quite frankly am tempted to drop my subscription to the website now that there are so many recipes available online. And I say this as someone who subscribed to the print issue for years and even tested recipes for a while.

This app used to be amazing. Absolutely perplexed why they would change it. Can’t even bookmark recipes anymore. Plan to cancel my subscription.
