  • A lot to love but a lot more to go before it replaces the big boy.

Affinity Designer 2 is almost ready for primetime but a number of baffling decisions and omissions make it hard to recommend as a complete package. The lack of true vector brushes, the functionality of the “pixel persona”, the default UI decisions, so many things make me want to slam my head into the desk. It’s amazing how good it is, but it just isn’t ready to be my 24/7 vector art tool of choice.

Im entirely impressed with how far the affinity trio has gotten from V1. It deserves more recognition as the best tool for a graphic designer!

As a UI/UX Product Designer, I rely on graphic design tools for a variety of tasks. Years ago, I made the switch to the Affinity Suite for personal projects, primarily using Affinity Designer (AD) and Affinity Publisher, and I’ve never looked back. Adobe's subscription model was a dealbreaker for me, so finding an alternative with a one-time fee was a game-changer. While I still use Photoshop occasionally for work—especially for its AI-powered features like headshot cleanup (a lifesaver when clients send selfies instead of professional portraits)—I consistently return to Affinity Designer. In my experience, AD outshines Photoshop in nearly every other way. It’s intuitive, powerful, and versatile, making it my go-to for all my graphic design needs. Affinity Publisher is another favorite. I use it extensively to create printables for my Etsy shop, and it handles everything I throw at it with ease. Whether it's designing, formatting, or preparing files for print, it’s a reliable tool that helps me deliver high-quality products. Overall, the Affinity Suite is a must-have for any graphic artist, especially at its unbeatable price point. I deeply appreciate the one-time purchase model—it’s refreshing in a landscape where subscriptions dominate. Constantly weighing which tools fit within a limited budget can be exhausting, and Affinity’s approach makes professional-grade software accessible without breaking the bank.
  • You’ve almost done it.

This is almost at the tipping point of being my replacement for illustrator but I’m gonna tell you what you need to market it as the ‘new standard’. The first thing that jumps out at me is how the illustrator keyboard shortcuts seem to be only half-way in use. I get there’s probably some copywrite infringement issues of some kind relating to you can’t use them all or label them as such, but if we could load a preset.txt file remapping the keyboard shortcuts, that would be absolutely cash money. It could be something that the users could generate and share amongst themselves. Maybe have an option to select from a dropdown of user-generated preset.txt’s? Also the toolbar and workspace should be expandable. Hope this happens, will check back month to month to see.

Some time ago I when looking for replacement apps for Adobe Illustrator and I came across your company. Just to let you know I have used Illustrator since the late 1980’s back in school. The apps your company have created are every bite as comparable the Adobe products, and I also use your other two apps Publisher and Photo.
  • Great product but still room for growth

All in all a very good product but is missing a lot of features as compared to Illustrator. Probably the biggest missing

Hands down one of the best vector based software around! Definitely gives the other major brand a run for its money. Plus, there’s not a subscription feed. You just own it! I also love that I can work on a design on my iPad and then open it up on desktop to continue working pretty seamlessly.
  • Good app!

It’s been really useful for school. I’ll probably start making my own holiday and birthday cards for people with AD2 also!
  • I'm only using this because I refuse to pay Adobe...

...for a monthly subscription. If you're like me and you're coming from Adobe Illustrator, there's a learning curve here. To put it succinctly, like Jules says in Pulp Fiction, "they've got everything in Amsterdam that we have here; except there it's just a little bit different."

I used adobe in the past and it was always difficult to use and understand. I downloaded Affinity a while ago to make the logo for my dads company, and now both of mine. The ease of use and understanding was awesome. With almost 0 graphic design experience I was able to make logos that compete against professionals. Any issues or delays were easily fixed with quick youtube videos.
