Be the Ball is an inexpensive golf range finder and shot tracking app for your iPhone. It uses the built in functionality of Apple Maps to track shots and judge distances. ∞∞∞ Range Finder ∞∞∞ Gauge the distance from your location to another place on the map with a single tap. Use the special "Mark Green" feature before each hole and always know how far the green is from you at a glance. Subsequent single taps on the screen will show the range to an arbitrary location while maintaining the green location distance. ∞∞∞ Shot Tracker ∞∞∞ The shot tracking feature allows you to mark your start and end locations for the club you used. It logs the distance for clubs and create a table of stats showing how far you hit a club on average. You can reference this to see what club you might need to use once you know your distance requirements. You can edit, update and delete shots in the event you forget to mark a start or end point. ∞∞∞ Caveats ∞∞∞ The app does NOT have any knowledge of the courses you play. It DOESN'T keep score. It DOESN'T know where the greens are until you mark them yourself in the app. If you're looking for a full-featured score keeping and course management app then this probably isn't for you. There are many fancy golf apps out there that automate a lot of the shot tracking. This is a low cost option that doesn't require any extra hardware. ∞∞∞ Shot Statistics ∞∞∞ If you're using the Shot Tracker features then the Shot Statistics will summarize your club distances and maintain your longest shots with a club. ∞∞∞. Privacy and GPS Use ∞∞∞ The app does not collect or store any personal information or GPS data. It uses iCloud storage to save your shot data in your personal iCloud account. The application requires use of the phone's GPS (Location Tracking) in order to plot your location on a map, show the direction you're facing and place markers. The distance data provided is only as accurate as the GPS is. The math used is not complex but sometimes the phone provides incorrect GPS data. ∞∞∞ Subscription Overview ∞∞∞ The app requires a subscription to use any of the features. It is priced to be far cheaper than a range finder and the monthly option allows you to start and stop paying if you don't play year round. Your subscription will provide you access to new features and bug fixes for as long as you use the app. Monthly Subscription Option: • Price: $.99/month • Duration: 1 month • Renewal: The subscription will automatically renew each month until you cancel. Feel free to start and stop the monthly billing as needed but the minimum payment required to use the app even once in a month is $.99. Good for infrequent use.
