  • Politics and Paywalls

    Despite marking political stories as wanting to see less and hiding stories from certain sources, they just find new sources for more politics. Many of the articles link to paywalled sites. A regular RSS feed reader gives you more control than Google News. I deleted this app after a few weeks.

    It was a great app when I first started using it. Now, all the different news sources are hidden behind subscriptions. You can’t even read half the article articles. They also took away the ability from you to see from certain news agencies.

    Google News is an unethical platform that has completely abandoned journalism in favor of propaganda. The app showcases biased headlines, heavily slanted towards right-wing agendas, and does little to represent diverse viewpoints or factual reporting. It’s clear they’re not journalists but paid puppets pushing government-backed narratives. People are not as gullible as they think—we’re waking up to the lies. Stop trying to manipulate the truth. This app is a disgrace to real journalism.

    You need to let us customize how we see things. I’m not interested in seeing top headlines, on the top. Or at all in fact. Everytime I open this app I just end up permanently blocking the 2 news sources on top because it has content I am not interested in seeing. Just because you care about Trump and Israel doesn’t mean that’s all I wanna read about. Blocking sites in the local section also doesn’t always work. There’s been 1 article stuck on my feed, even after it’s been removed and blocked and I’ve told it to stop showing me things even related to it, but it persists. I’ve also long term attempted to make your app stop showing me things related to Elon Musk, for months I’ve been pressing “show me less” and it ultimately just comes back. It’s sort of insane. How do you make such poor apps for being such a rich company?

  • Slow to update with more current news and buggy presentations

    My biggest gripes of this app are how stale the articles are at any given time. You’ll see the same hours or days old articles sticking around and no amount of refreshing will give you updated info. I have to resort to other apps in order to get up to the minute news. On top of that, recently when launching an article from some source hangs because of ads or subscription pop ups. There is no option to back out so you have to quit the app entirely.

    Nice try but there are better alternatives. Google News kicks you out of stories after only a few minutes. I can only guess this is to make you reload all the garbage adverts, so they can make even more $. It’s extremely annoying and a waste of time to use this app.

    App just froze and locked up due to paywall pop up. Come on google/apple. Big tech just continues proving it will only make all aspects of life more frustrating by the minute

  • Terrible Story Recommendations

    You’d think that since I told the app I don’t care about Call of Duty about 50 times that it might eventually take a hint and stop showing me these pointless articles, but you’d be wrong! Any time a garbage mainstream game comes out like this, it ruins the app for months because it won’t show you any stories about literally anything else.
