Five out of six pages I opened this morning crashed. It seems like for emphasis is put on cramming in ads than providing a reliable platform.

More annoyance than newsworthy. How can I turn it off??

This app constantly crashes when I open a news story. It'll take me to the story, allow me to scroll through the article part way and then kick me out of that story. I have to keep refreshing to try and finish reading the story. Just happened now and this time I just gave up to write this review.

Since early June 2025 it crashes 2 out of 5 times when I try to read news, I have to force quit or my phone is bricked.

Why was the local news tab removed? These kind of cavalier changes are annoying to say the least. Time to find a new news app.

**Updating 4 days later to say that apparently there were enough complaints about the update that they gave us back some of the features everyone complained were missing. So, I’m using it again., and changes my rating from 1 star.*** I HATE this update! I can no longer use the app bc it is so awful. I used to be able to navigate to world news or business or entertainment and now I hoy have access to what google thinks I want access to. It’s simply awful. I stopped using Apple News bc of this and came to Google news and now Google news is the SAME as apple. I HATE it. Did I mention how much I hate it?

I have been using Google news several times a day for a long time. I liked the way the content was arranged with headlines and other sections. I could pick what I wanted to focus on and ignore the rest. Now the presentation of the content has changed and there seems to be a lot less content overall. I scroll down a few times and then I'm at the end of the list where I used to have much more choice. I have a new phone and I get a free trial of Apple news so I'm going to give them a try.

Edit: after deleting and reinstalling the app, missing features have returned. The latest version removed local news, this was one of the best features of this app over Apple News. Now they are essentially the same. 🙁

UPDATE: the only way to get the app to work properly is by deleting the app and reinstalling it. Simply updating doesn’t work. So there’s no bar at the bottom to switch away from headlines to the “for you” tab or any other tab? Just headlines? What is even the point of the app then?

Crashes opening an article. Crashes half way through reading an article when I scroll down. From Google I expected better software developers and testing. Very frustrating.
