  • Good app but needs to be properly updated

I rally like using this app but it took a long time for it to update to new code sections after the last Legislature. Because of this, I am not ready to rely totally on this app. I would be willing to pay for updates to ensure the information is current and reliable.
  • Glad I've made the purchase

Awesome user friendly app. Found what I'd needed while on the go. The best thing about this app, is that you're able to email the statues quick and easy.

  • If it were only current, then it would be useful...

I bought this app knowing it was not current as the description said it was only good through the 80th legislature. But I wanted to give it a test run. I'm looking for an app that will not only contain all the statutes I need, but one that will be current. In a courtroom, a book of statutes is worthless unless it is current. This app does everything a lawyer needs it to do. A lawyer does not need a fancy search function as he is already familiar with the statutes and knows where to look to find the exact wording of the particular statute he needs. The statutes are well organized and sorted by subsections. The information is appropriately broken up so you don't have to scroll multiple times. As a bonus, you can email statutes. I can see this being very handy when you want to research a statute later, or if you want to email a particular statute to a colleague or client. The only thing this app is missing is an update feature. In fact, when you purchase it, it is already out of date. Any lawyer, law professor, or law student knows that any statute reference is worthless unless it is current. I cannot look up a law and rely on what I am reading if it is not current law. Thus, this app, at best, is good for the layman who wants to browse the laws and get a general idea of what they say. For the legal community, this app cannot be used. I wrote the developers and email and told them that I (and I think most of the legal community) would be willing to pay for yearly updates. We have to pay for the updates via Lexis or WestLaw. We'll see if the developers agree to start supporting this product on a yearly basis by updating the app. In the meantime, if you are in the profession and need a portable family law reference, you will have to wait for this one to be updated. But if you are an average Joe and want to see what the Texas law has to say about your family law question, this app has all the laws through 2008 and, for the most part, should be fairly accurate.
