I’ve used Pocket for years and loved it. Now though it is hard to listen to. When I go to my Saves and try to listen to them, the tone of any of the voices is so monotone, without inflection, that it seems that they must have gone the way of AI instead of human sounding voices. For starters, the voices tread so quickly that I couldn’t understand it. I’ve slowed out down to the minimum speed of 0.8 but it is still awful. It’s good for reading, but until they give up on AI (which I’m betting they won’t), I won’t be using it recommending it for listening.
  • Pagination? Grid View? Hello?

Why are you guys getting rid of features? Especially on large format screens like iPads the removal of grid view is just baffling. And pagination? Seriously Readwise just added this, why did Pocket remove it? It’s not impossible to have, it was there before. As well the report feature for broken articles is gone. Articles from the same site often break and load the browser page instead of article reader. No idea why this happens, but now we’ll never since these issues cannot be reported easily. The app feels less refined than it did a year ago. If it didn’t have Kobo support I’d have switched long ago. However articles not showing in the reader view is pushing my limits. This really shouldn’t be an issue for a read it later app, and I don’t think it used to be the case.
  • Jank since the redesign

2023: Been using pocket for almost 10 years. It’s been terrible since the redesign. My complaint for today: why do the article counts not match on my phone and iPad? And countless other annoying backslides in user experience. 2024 update: articles still don’t sync properly between devices. Search is still garbage. And now listen mode doesn’t work. The once clean and beautiful interface is a cluttered mess now. I’m finally bailing on this app. Thanks for the memories!
  • Add to Pocket shortcut

I’m very disappointed that ‘Add to Pocket’ shortcut feature in iOS is no longer supported, I use Pocket mainly for links bookmarking and saving for accessing it later on PC and really considering a shift to an alternative app for saving links like Instapaper as it still support the add-links shortcut. Can you elaborate one reason to remove this feature? Despite it availability in the shortcut app til now but with Bad Request pop up when used? The Google Chrome extension ‘Save to Pocket’ is still available and working though! Unless you are suddenly moving from links saving to reading or listening offline articles! It doesn’t make sense since I can still add copied links to Pocket but need to open the app and use add URL feature from inside! Why such a headache! I contacted the support and they clearly said that the feature is stopped suddenly despite it being available in the shortcuts store! I have been using Pocket since 2013 and now leaving thanks to this!
  • Avoid doing updates on apps

Ever since the redesign it has been the overall functionality of the app has become worse with updates being a roll of the dice between getting minor bugs fixed or new app breaking bugs getting introduced. Judging by the recent reviews, it appears the most recent two updates are the latter. I am at the point where I will no longer download updates for the app for the fear that it will be further broken and unfixed as the development focuses on new “features” that seem to be also broken and/or focused on monetization instead of stabilization of user experience. Even 4-5 months ago the ability to remove tags has stopped working with a suggestion from Support being to delete existing tags. Articles that I had archived since using the app over a decade ago and were accessible prior to the redesign are still inaccessible since the redesign. Pocket management please focus your next couple of development cycles on bug fixing instead of monetization. People aren’t going to want to spend money on something that is constantly getting broken and unfixed.
  • Someone, please do some regression testing.

This app is the worst, best app ever. It suddenly just stopped doing text to voice altogether and some articles don’t save with the article name, but with the name of the website. They removed bulk edit (why?) months ago and it’s still not back yet. These sorts of functional regressions are completely unnecessary. Did nobody test this application? You’re practically begging me to go use InstaPaper. FIX THIS NOW!!!
  • Critical feature doesn’t work

I’ve been using Pocket for over 10 years and in the past year or so, it has just become too buggy to even use. You said to move all of my stuff over to another reader, but if the text voice feature doesn’t work, it’s just not worth it.
  • Disappointed

My only reason for using Pocket is to listen to material while driving. The Listen function stopped working after an update. So it’s now useless.

The listen to articles feature no longer works. The main reason I use pocket.
