I’ve been a lifetime subscriber since 2013. Like many others posting reviews here, when I upgraded to a new iPhone 16 Pro, my iBird got locked out with a message saying no subscription found. Emailed support five days ago but no response. So not only did they not proactively reach out in advance of their new subscription policy warning of a pending change, they are unresponsive to their own messaging to contact their email support. Have enjoyed this app for over a decade, but cannot recommend any longer.

After some persistent efforts on both my part and that of the iBird Pro support team, I was finally able to regain access to my app. I really appreciate their dedication. They even offered a free year to update my original 2015 purchase, and I’m planning to go for the lifetime subscription once this year is up!
  • Once again Ultimate not working.

At the top of the splash screen for Ultimate version, the word “test” appears and the program won’t load. Someone messed up big time. Please fix it. You made us pay multiple times for multiple versions already.

This app is amazing- it’s like carrying a complete bird reference guide, complete with songs, on your smartphone or tablet. We’ve been using it for years because it’s fast, through and user-friendly, regardless of your level of bird knowledge. It’s just as good as other major field guides like Sibley and Kaufman but much more convenient for both field use and home study. The small monthly or yearly subscription fee is more than worth the access to such a comprehensive resource.
  • Top Bird App!

This app is awesome because it’s sooo easy to use. The photos are beautiful, but what I love most is the comparisons to similar species and calls, all without losing your spot in the app. Brilliant!
  • Best birding app I’ve used

I haven't tried every birding app out there, but this one easily tops the list of those I have. It offers an impressive depth of detail and is designed with user experience in mind, making it simple to navigate through well-structured categories. It definitely beats out other well-known apps like Merlin, Audubon, and All About Birds in terms of usefulness.

This app is a great tool that keeps evolving. I regularly use it along with Merlin and eBird, and the constant improvements make it an indispensable part of my birding toolkit.

This is an incredible bird ID app! I’m a big fan of this app. As someone who’s been birding at an intermediate level for years, I often need a little extra help with identification and expanding my knowledge about the birds I encounter. This app feels like having a bird expert by my side at all times. The detailed illustrations and photos, along with the comparisons to similar species, are really beneficial. I also love the bird songs—it’s a great way to practice identification by ear. I have no issues with the subscription fee; it’s very reasonable compared to other apps that switched to subscription models, and I appreciated the free transition year. I’m more than willing to pay to keep this app accurate and up-to-date. I just hope the developer keeps updating the app as in the past.
  • DONT GET THE FAKE “LIFETIME” PURCHASE

I purchased this app 15 years ago. The developer now says I can get a “free 1 year subscription.” I have sent 6 emails over the past month requesting the free offer code that the developer claims to offer. I have heard nothing from the developer. I say this free code claim is a lie that is told to make the developer seem like a reasonable person. Shame on you! __________ Previous UPDATE Now I have sent 5 emails to IBird support and have gotten no reply regarding their claim that they will free 1 year subscriptions to previous purchasers of their app. Either they are liars, they have a horrific support team or both. Previous review: I PURCHASED iBird over 15 years ago, however a few weeks ago while banding birds, without warning the app said I need to subscribe to it to continue using iBird. Very inconvenient and irritating since I was without internet access to try to figure out what was going on. Legal? Probably. Sleazy? Definitely. They are still offering a Lifetime subscription. “Lifetime” according to these developers means “until we change our minds!” A less morally questionable option would be to offer Legacy access for previous purchasers of iBird that lets those users to continue to use the app without upgrades. Other apps have done this when they have moved to subscriptions. The developer states that users who purchased the app can get a free year subscription - just send an email to support. I’ve sent FOUR EMAILS over the past few weeks simply saying when I purchased the app and NO RESPONSE. I’m leaning more to the SLEAZE conclusion. Finally, my previous review - not favorable - mysteriously disappeared. What’s up with that!?
  • Paid a lot for this app only to be shut out

No, I don’t want a free year’s subscription. I want access to the app I paid a lot of money for expecting it would be mine free and clear.
