  • The layout is getting… worse

A long time NYT supporter here but the app design keeps on changing, the new version is getting worse. The top sections show the “popular” items but it doesn’t mean everyone wants all of them. Why the Games is listed on the top and the bottom, one is called Games, the other one is called “Play”? So are “Audio” and “Listen”. A waste a space. Why can’t we customize the sections? The new Sections now belongs to a Search button only on Home tab. Who allowed such idea? NYT needs a good app designer to make it more logical, more practical, more scientifically proven for reading. It is not a minimalism arthouse.

This app just keeps getting harder worse. It’s harder and harder to find the stuff I actually want to read, not just the stuff they want to force on me.
  • No way to deactivate auto play on articles

If you listen to an NYT article, it autoplays into podcast. There is no way to turn this off. Please add a way to turn off auto play. This is really annoying and needs to be an option for subscribers.

To the best of my knowledge, the Sulzberger family has operated NYT with journalistic integrity
  • Advertisements Galore

Despite paying a subscription for the NYT, we are still subject to seeing ad upon ad in every article on the app.

Placing the menu (“Today/For You/Play/Sections”) to the top of the screen is very intrusive and distracting. Need to fix this.
  • Can’t stop videos from playing automatically; frustrating navigation

Videos on the home page start playing automatically and with audio (even with the “autoplay” setting turned to off!). The navigation makes it hard to find sections (like Arts, Science, Food), while the top of the screen has permanent links to sections I have zero interest in (Games, Audio, Wirecutter). Excellent content, but so frustrating to find and navigate!
