Description

Noir is a Safari extension that automatically adds a dark mode to every website you visit. It makes browsing the web at night so much better. With Noir, you won’t be blinded by bright websites ever again. And the results look great too. Noir generates a custom dark style for each website you visit, based on the colors that are used on a page. You won’t even notice this happening in the background – that’s how fast it is – but you’ll certainly appreciate the end result: a beautiful dark mode tailored for each website, where contrast is preserved and highlights still pop. And with over 20 built-in themes and the ability to create your own, you can customize the results exactly the way you want. Noir works with any website you visit in Safari, automatically. By default, Noir is linked to your device’s Dark Mode, so websites will only go dark when you want them to. But you can easily customize this to your liking, even per website. Only want to use Noir on just a few specific websites? Sure thing! Disable Noir on some websites? No problem! The app feels right at home on your device. It is a Safari extension, which means there’s no need to manually activate it every time you load a new page. The app also tightly integrates with system features such as Shortcuts, Focus Filters, and Widgets to fully integrate Noir in all your workflows. And your settings are automatically synced to all your devices using iCloud. And just as importantly, Noir takes your privacy seriously: it doesn’t collect any of your browsing data. Period. Noir is made by an indie developer. It does not include any subscriptions or ads. Buy Noir once, use it forever. Notes: • Found a website where Noir’s dark mode doesn’t look just right? Let me know by reporting it. The app will be frequently updated to address issues that are reported. Privacy Policy: • The Noir extension requires access to the websites you visit to analyze the existing style of the page and to override it with Noir's dark style. • Noir never collects your browsing data. The only data Noir ‘collects’ are your settings, and those will never leave your device or iCloud account. • You can read Noir’s full Privacy Policy at https://getnoir.app/privacypolicy

  • Hate to say it, but it’s worth it and works

As other’s have said, I searched for some free dark mode options but really didn’t find any. This one just works and gets the job done. My main gripe was with Google Sheets and I wanted a dark mode on that to work at night. This instantly solved my problem. It’s lacking some customizability, but we can choose a few different modes and disable it when a website is not the best for compatibility. This really should be a free feature, but oh well, 3 dollars well spent. Don’t waste too much time on this dilemma

Fine — you win. You have a nice app that doesn’t need to be updated. Wish we could have PDFs in dark mode as well but alas, thanks for your app. Have a nice day
  • It crashes often. The developer can’t fix it.

It’s a visually appealing app that fulfills its promises, but it crashes a few times every week. I’ve reported this issue to the developer for three years now and have sent them crash reports that could be helpful. Despite some updates being released here, the crashes persist. The inconvenience of the crash dialog appearing even when the extension is set to Off makes it completely unusable for me.
  • Keyboard shortcut doesn’t seem to work

I don’t know why, but the keyboard shortcut to enable or disable Noir for a specific webpage doesn’t work. I got it to work once but then it never worked again. This is really annoying as a former user of Dark Reader on Chromium browsers, as that function was just very convenient.
  • It just works

Best night mode app out there and it's not even close.

I’ve tried them all, and I mean all of them on every browser. This one is by FAR the best it’s not even close. Forget the $3.99 I would have paid $30.99 for this extension.
  • This app is magic!

Hands down the best dark mode browser plugin I have ever found. First let's just appreciate how difficult of a problem it is to automatically add dark mode to sites that do not have dark mode. Noir has to intelligently figure out if the app already has dark mode and if so then do nothing. If it doesn't have dark mode, then Noir has to figure out exactly what is dark text on a light background and it has to flip them. And it has to do this intelligently for every website on the internet. Is it perfect? No. But it's freaking good at it. So good that many sites I use don't have dark mode and I don't even notice because it just plain works. Thank you Noir. You're amazing!

When the extension is disabled for a website, close the tab/browser and revisit the website, the Noir icon will not show as disabled.

I got this so I could do the NYT crossword at night without bothering my wife. Some of the reviews in the App Store are old and their complaints have been resolved. I have had no issues with Noir; it is very well polished and user friendly. Definitely worth buying in my case.
  • Best dark mode (for any browser)

I recently switched from Firefox to Safari and was needing a dark mode extension, so I got Noir. It’s an enormous improvement over Dark Reader for Firefox. DR always just felt like some hacky CSS that was applied to each website, and a lot of sites would flash bright white pages before getting converted. Noir dark mode is applied instantly (no flash of white) and the theme looks amazing on 99% of sites. Highly recommended!
