  • Charged my card 4 days after deleting app

    I deleted the app 1/14/25 because it costs too many coins per chapter and the chapters are relatively short. Imagine my surprise today when I saw a new charge, dated 1/18/25 for additional coins when I have already deleted the app! Obviously I reported it to Apple and will be contacting my bank when they open on 1/20/25 regarding this fraudulent charge. Ridiculous!!

    I downloaded the Good Novel app because I was intrigued by the stories, and to be fair, they were enjoyable. However, the app’s pricing and customer service leave a lot to be desired. First, progressing through a story requires a ton of coins, making it frustratingly expensive. I decided to try their “short story subscription,” which advertised a week of unlimited free short stories. However, this turned out to be completely misleading. Not only were the “short stories” not short stories, but the subscription also did nothing other than charge me $10. When I reached out to customer service to clarify, their responses were completely unprofessional. It was as though a middle schooler was running their customer support. For example, they said, “Monthly subscriptions does not equal membership does not equal to you can read this novel without coins or bonuses. besides you bought a short VIP membership, which means you can only read the short novel for free it does not give you coins or bonuses.” For some reason, they really overuse capital Xs in their communication too, which is bizarre. When I explained that the subscription was misleading and kindly asked if they could exchange it for $10 worth of coins instead, their response was, “Subscription cannot be changed. Thank you for your support.” It feels like this app is purely about squeezing as much money as possible out of users without providing clear or fair value. The stories may be good, but their deceptive pricing and atrocious customer service ruin the experience. Learn how to respond to customers professionally before taking their money! 1 star, only because the stories themselves were decent.

    I starting reading a really great story but I can’t progress without spending money. The other apps will offer the option to spend money, wait a specific amount of time to progress or watch ads. I’m not spending my money here.

    It cost 5 dollars just to get through like 3 chapters of a book. It’s so expensive. There should just be an option to pay for the book not per page.

  • Cost to read a single book is ridiculously exorbitant

    The chapters for the books on this app are ridiculously short, and it costs 35 coins to unlock a new chapter. For books that can easily be at least 250 of those ridiculously short chapters, it will take either at least 242 days (including the 8 free chapters at the beginning), most of a year, to read a single book using only the free bonus coins OR at least $60. Considering the average paperback novel is maybe 1/10 or 1/5 that, and that the novels on this app aren't well written at all, either the chapters need to be unlockable in groups of five or ten for the same 35-coin price, the chapters need to be longer (and the total number of chapters fewer, meaning the writers would have to learn better pacing), or the cost to purchase coins should be a lot less.

    I’ve had this app for years now and it’s done nothing but be okay and get worse to the point I’m about to leave it. Buying coins is pointless because each chapter after the beginning 7 costs 35 coins. 500 coins is what 4.99? Each book has a minimum of I’ve seen 97 chapters or up to 400 & something chapters. Let’s make math , math and the cheapest book is $3x.xx. More chapters more money. Each “chapter is anywhere from 2-6 pages and those are including space and rewards on it or it maybe the whole page and no words. I’m going back to the book stores to actually purchase books that have correct grammar, names in the right places and don’t push me to get a subscription for half unedited books. GoodNovel you have turned a joy for reading into a joke and you should be ashamed for your money grabbing behavior. You couldn’t be paying anyone as much as you are grabbing for money. Authors I appreciate your work honestly some of you I love and have read several of your novels but after paying $100 a month to read two stories and still having to wait for the next week to get “more coins” is utterly ridiculous

    It genuinely costs more to read one story on here than just buying a book. The short stories require a membership to read, it literally doesn’t let you use coins. Garbage app to read the same basic concept over and over again.

    Way too expensive for short chapters. They should consider an unlimited option for the prices. It’s almost 6 dollars for six chapters and even then you don’t get much of a read the chapters are like three pages long. I wouldn’t recommend.
