I suppose to pay 100$ per year for an app which does NOT even open?
  • Desktop App Nonfunctional

While all of the mobile versions were updated to have the library and the reader, which has its own problems because both are not integrated, the nkoda team has left the desktop application as an afterthought. That being said, while trying to study on a larger screen or on a separate monitor that has more screen real estate, I can no longer open the application at all. I have reached out to the support team with no response. I love the amount of scores available on the service. It's incredible for study, but with it being unusable, I don't find it reasonable to continue paying.
  • reviews are for an old version

Almost all the reviews here are for an old version of the app. The developers seem to have done a good job of addressing complaints. Also, some people don't seem to appreciate what a tremendous service this is. No, you can't print out the music like you can for something downloaded from IMSLP, because these works are still copyrighted -- and super expensive to buy! And now that all the music stores are closing, you no longer get to browse the shelves looking for the right piece or the right edition. My devices are full of PDFs from IMSLP for older works and editions that are now public domain. But with nkoda I've been able to do things like browse multiple editions of Chopin, Beethoven, etc., to find the ones I prefer. Find 20th and 21st c. music that's no yet legal for IMSLP. And they keep improving the reader app for using an iPad instead of printed music. Is it perfect? Nothing is. Is it worth the money? Every penny.

I needed Qigang Chen's piece: Er Huang, for my master's Thesis. With this program you cannot download or print the score. You cannot even take screen shots of selected portions to turn those into pdfs. As a graduate composer, I understand the high cost of piracy each year but this protection of scores is too extreme. When you cancel, make sure you cancel both on the Nkoda page and in the subscriptions page of your music (itunes) app.

It doesn't seem to support Big Sur. I can't even open the app.

After being told that my cancellation request had gone through, I was charged yet again the following month, and had to follow up to ensure my refund. I have since read reports of other people having trouble canceling, and so my experience seems to be the latest in a pattern. This scam-like behavior, along with nkoda's confounding and restrictive interface, results in an app that is all but useless

The quality of the scores is variable, not clean, infinitely scalable digital originals. You cannot print, screenshot, or export. In summary, you're locked into their app and the app is merely passable. Some of the criticism may not be directly the developer's fault, but the publisher's. However, this doesn't change the fact that this isn't a very useful tool.
  • Limited utility

nkoda is trying to be a one-stop shop for a wide range of pricey scores. That is fine, but it is locked down to the extent that one can neither print from it, nor export to PDFs. This means that the scores can only be used on a screen, and in a relatively clunky app. It's great for studying orchestral scores, so long as you're staring at a huge screen.
