Description

While learning phonics is an important skill for beginning readers, sight words is another. Why learn words by sight? Simply put, there are some words (also called high frequency words) that appear so frequently in reading that we want our readers to know them automatically, by sight. Just the first 100 words of Fry’s word list make up nearly 50% of what we read. Wow! Knowing these words automatically helps to increase fluency, which can also build comprehension and understanding. Sight Word Lists The two most commonly used word lists for sight words are the Dolch word lists and Fry’s word lists. This Reading Mama has combined the two lists. They can be printed off for free on her blog (see link below). Sight Word Games App You can find lots of sight word apps, Sight Word Games stands out because you can choose the sight words your learner works on! The games included reinforce reading and spelling of sight words. The games are fun and engaging for learners K-3rd grades. I loved the idea of being able to customize a word list. However, it is COMPLETELY USELESS without sound. The sound worked on one occasion and now won’t work on any of my devices. There’s absolutely no way to contact anyone for support with this issue. Such a waste of money!

There is no sound on the app. I purchased this app and another one of your apps after getting an email saying they were $0.99 through today, March 29. Neither have sound and they were not the price advertised. I would like a refund, please.

I was really excited about this app. It worked well for a couple days and then the sound stopped working. Every other app on my phone is working with sound so it’s definitely just the app. I even tried deleting and reloading. I’m having trouble finding any support other than a redirect to the personal blog.

Just purchased this app, but the sound doesn’t work. And, yes, the audio on my phone is on and working. No way to contact developer or trouble shoot issue. Additionally, the app is difficult to navigate; it’s just poorly designed. Unfortunately, because the audio doesn’t work I can’t give any insights as to the efficacy of the learning exercises or games. I’d like my money back.

I like that you can customize the sight word list for the specific words my daughter needs to practice.

I have 10 young grandchildren and I bought this app for them. They have enjoyed it so much. They had a tough time learning to maneuver through it in the beginning but once they got it they were very independent.

I was excited to find a sight word app that allowed me to choose the words to work on, but after purchasing and playing the games with my daughter I realized that it wasn’t suitable for her. She struggles with spelling sight words in the correct order. A few of the games, such as the hangman game, praises her for getting the letters right even when it is in the wrong order. Further, I thought the last game, the sling shot game, was too hard for my 6 year old. It involved trying to hit moving targets with letters on them to spell the word. It was actually pretty hard to do. This game also doesn’t reinforce spelling in the correct order.
  • Where is the sound? Surely I, just missing something...

No sound? Hopefully it’s just a setting because if not this is useless.
