I liked it a lot and the way it helped me to understand the concept of words

Even with premium my lock screen widget disappears if I don’t open the app every other day. The widget is why I purchased the premium version, quite frustrating to be honest. I believe it is intentional as a way to get users to open the app. Don’t waste your money if you are hoping to get a widget that functions without opening the app.

Since you can only test out the app after inputting a bunch of data and signing up for a trial that is automatically billed at $49.99 annually, here are some nuggets to help determine whether it’s worth trialing. The word of the day words and definitions are “meh” at best. The intake requires you to tell the app whether you know certain words but the third day, my word of the day was one of the words I had indicated I already knew. The definitions and sample sentences are, IMO, overly simplistic and often not in alignment - the grammatical structure of the definition often suggests a different usage than the sample sentence, leaving me wondering how to properly use the word, and turning to the googz for further context. Each word of the day is presented as a card that you “scratch off” by dragging your finger across back and forth, like a video game for a 4 year old. I normally appreciate some gamification, but this is embarrassing and tedious. The scratch off reveals a picture intended to represent the word. I’m a visual learner, so appreciate this, though it’s hard to get past the mediocre art at times. In addition to the definition and sample sentence, you can click to hear the word pronounced. The app is only available as an annual subscription, for $49.99. Oddly, when I went to cancel it, I clicked “see all plans” and noted that the same annual subscription is available for $39.99 and $59.99. You can also buy themed “albums” for $9.99 each that offer 14-15 words. The AI underpinnings are apparent in every corner of this app - the intake, the definitions, the art, the sample sentences - which may be fine if you’re looking for a crude vocab builder and have a deep nostalgia for paint with water coloring books, but it lacks the nuance and context that language demands and falls way short of its price tag.

Just trying to improve myself, why does it have to cost money.
  • They took out some of the important features

I initially found this app very helpful. One feature I particularly liked was the ability to search for words and add them to my collection, allowing me to check them later. However, after updates, the option to save these words into my collection was removed.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I was very much looking forward to getting the word of the day app and spent such a long time filling out my personality traits and my “word interests” just to be hit with a $50 price tag what is America coming to. I’d be better off just flipping through a dictionary than dealing with this sorry excuse of an app. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!

Why is there not a simple way to add words to a collection? For example, I don't see an option to add a word to my collection when i search words nor is there an option from the word of the day??

It’s good to be reminded to the Larmon new bar each day on top of everything we already have to remember, but it’s very useful.
  • Extremely well written

The daily word is properly written and used in a way that assist you in understanding the fullness of the word, with graphics and pronunciation.
