This largely eliminates the risk of message interception. Zero Access to Your Email Content Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages. Open-Source Cryptography Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors. Proton Mail in the press: “Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes “A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post Follow Proton on social media for all the latest news and offers: Facebook: /proton Twitter: @protonprivacy Reddit: /protonmail Instagram: /protonprivacy For more information, visit: https://proton.me/mail Our open-source code base: https://github.com/ProtonMail EULA: http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/appstore/dev/stdeula

  • Proton locked me out of my email when I let their Premium VPN expire!

Proton locked me out of my email account after I let my premium VPN subscription expire. To give me back access to my email, they insisted that I restart the VPN service AND (if you can believe this) also pay for the VPN service during the months after I let it expire. Keep in mind they did not provide VPN service during this time. Outrageous.
  • Bad support, no option to call

Great application, great idea, great features, good pricing…. And the support service that will make you want to pull your hair out. To start, the integration with Apple is HORRIBLE, do NOT start a subscription using Apple’s subscription option. Reasons being the plans offered are only 20% of the available plans offered through the main site or any other platform. You will not be able to switch to another payment option or plan offered outside of the 3 options listed for Apple. You will not be able to cancel your subscription immediately. Now for the support… the only support offered is via email, unless you purchase a business plan which allows for a request to call… I would have done this option just for the ability to call and resolve my problem in a timely manner but unfortunately they will not allow you to switch to a business plan if you’re honest about this being the reason for the switch. If you do contact them via email, expect 3-5 days for a response… yes, 3-5 days every response… I’ve even replied back to a response within 3 minutes of receiving the email in hopes for a reply and had to wait 3 more days… if you have a time sensitive, please save yourself and try another option. No matter how good it is, it will all be worthless when you have to wait a month to fix something, trust me.
  • Lacks very basic functionality

The product is fairly basic. No search outside metadata within the app due to security issues. Advanced search options are limited to the web. As ridiculous as it sounds use the app to search email body for key words - just the subject line. Instead of building out a more robust app, like functionality mentioned, the developer is distracted building a password manager, vpn, calendar and other services. Pro tip- get email right and fill featured before entering other areas. 1 awesome product is better than 3 half baked ones.
  • Best email option available!

I have been using Proton Mail for a few years now. I love the fact that everything is encrypted and I get no spam mail. Also, proton has consistently been regularly updated in services and its app and so there is a constant cycle of incremental improvements and bug fixes. I love the company that’s committed to that type of innovation. The recent integration of Proton Mail and into the other Street of products baseball for compelling offering interested in privacy and friction.
  • Can’t fix bugs

The moment I purchased a yearly plan bugs started showing up. Each time I launch the application, I get two error messages that I have to click on to proceed reading my mail. I reported this to the development team and they said they would fix it but every time they said it is fixed it never was. I still see these error messages and do a few clicks before I can get to my email and this is every time I launch the application even after I login. so I have multiple clicks to do all day long as I go through my emails. I don’t understand why they can’t fix this issue. It has been three months and still no fix. Obviously, I’m not going to renew my subscription. Doesn’t give much confidence in the code when they can’t fix a simple issue like this.

I changed my email carrier from Yahoo to Proton because I was receiving between 75 & 100 crazy emails daily. I was also notified by Life Lock that my email address was on the dark web. I spent hours blocking emails with no success. I love proton. No strange emails. Thank you for maintaining my privacy

  • Really wanted to love it - but unusable if you need the calendar

First of all, I really wanted to use it and was willing to ignore all the small UX annoyances like the terrible search especially on iOS. However, what really made the switch to proton a disaster is everything related to calendar and for most people, the e-mail address is directly linked to the calendar. Just a few examples: -The biggest flaw first: There is basically no way to get calendar invites into calendar, except for a few very rare occasions if someone sends you an email and the app actually gives me the option to accept or decline. In most cases, I have to manually copy and paste calendar details and create an appointment, when an app offers to create it automatically for outlook, google mail, apple etc. - just assume that EVERY appointment you now get automatically from any source needs to get imported manually and consider if this is really worth it. - I just received an email from an outlook user “New time proposed” - I can’t open it and see what time they proposed neither on ipad nor iphone. Now I need to go back and ask them instead of just agreeing or declining it in outlook There is barely a way to automatically convenient way anything on iOS (but also I didn’t find any on windows) - There isn’t even a real app for calendar on ipad. Why, is beyond me. So to summarize: Search is already very annoying, but if you actually need calendars, you need to stay away until they fix it.
  • Missing Key Feature

For the love of all that is holy, please give us the ability to mark ALL unread emails in a folder as read. I do not mean only selected emails. I have thousands of unread emails that I want to mark as read all at once. This is not currently possible. Instead I must spend HOURS selecting all currently loaded (50 at a time load) and then mark that tiny batch as read, which usually misses 6-17, and then load more, select those, and then mark as read, ad nauseum. This is insanity. Just fix it and stop trying to force us into wasting our precious time.
