I love to be able to ride in the basement when the weather is disagreeable or if my time is limited and I just need to get in a quick ride.

In addition to owning a Garmin Edge 1050 bike computer, I own a Speed and Cadence 2 sensor bundle, an HRM chest strap, and four Garmin watches. My default device is the Forerunner 265 that I routinely use to broadcast my heart rate to the Edge 1050. So, it’s fair to say that I am a pretty heavily invested in Garmin’s ecosystem. However, that apparently isn’t enough for Garmin. My smart trainer is a Wahoo Kickr Core. It’s actually the only non-Garmin fitness tech that I own to date. You would think that I would be able to use my trainer in ANT+ mode alongside the Edge 1050 and FR265 in the Tacx training app, but nope. Third party trainers are not compatible. Garmin wants you to use its own Tacx trainers and nothing else! I have used the Tacx training app previously with the Garmin Speed and Cadence 2 sensor bundle, but since I don’t have power meter pedals, the value I got from it was quite limited. I was looking forward to using it with a trainer, but not anymore as that isn’t an option. With all of the cycling apps now on the market, it boggles my mind that Garmin locks out other trainers to the detriment of its own customer base. But, this is the company that took customizable dashboards away from its users to bundle them into a subscription package. I guessI shouldn’t be surprised. There’s nothing like spending thousands of dollars on Garmin devices to be told ‘it’s not enough, spend more.’ I think I’ll pass.
  • Sigue presentando fallas

Was really stoked to hop on my garmin trainer and put some work in for this 70.3 i’m training for, but this Garmin app has a mind of its own. It’s so buggy, it either lags out when you try to calibrate your trainer or, when your actually in the app on a specific cycle route it will just pause all the sudden and everything will freeze. super annoying when your 30-40 mins into a ride and you lose all your data. Wish i purchased another trainer with Zwift. very disappointed with garmin on this one .
  • Won’t “Connect”

Workouts will not report to Garmin Connect app and therefore, won’t upload to Strava. I have to manually record my rides. Ironic that it’s a Garmin app and won’t talk to another Garmin app.

App is crashing every 10 minutes after latest update.

I do enjoy using the app, but every update seems to fix an annoying UI bug or two while introducing another. For example, the ride completion stats page showed incorrect average and max HR values. That was fixed in a recent update. After the most recent update, if you pause a ride by stopping pedaling, the Ride Paused screen remains displayed after you successfully resume the ride by pedaling again.

GarminTacx could use a lessen from Zwift. Garmin Connect has a long road to useabilityrograms were much easier and acctually controlled the entire work out in ERG mode. Garmin Connect has a long road to useability.
