Update 2025 - Dev has continued to release updates with top requested fixes and features pretty regularly (latest has an “open in app” Safari extension, woo!). Still waiting on a few key things like in-line images in comments, but this feels a few updates a way from perfection honestly. Worth the price of admission and you should absolutely consider an "extra support" subscription. The dev is super active in responding to feedback on the subreddit and clearly committing a ton of their free time to continuous improvements. The app itself outshines Apollo at its peak (for me) and is very close to reaching how happy I was with Sync on Android. There's a heavy focus on customizablity, and it can take a bit to find what fits your usecase best, but everything flows so well once you've tuned it. The simplified subscription cost and not having to constantly keep an eye on your API usage is a huge plus, too. Very excited to see how this grows in the future. :)
  • Slightly Better Than Official App

I had high hopes but Narwhal was only a marginal improvement over the official app. I wanted the ability to hide read posts. The menu item exists but I continued to see the same posts I had read - and upvoted etc - over and over. Might be worth the monthly fee to avoid ads but I’m already a Premium user. Oh well. I miss Apollo.

It’s okay. It needs a better layout and a clearer, easier way to know when mail, comment responses, etc occur
  • Network access

I just got a system pop up where Narwhal requested access to the local network. What’s that about?

I will always miss Apollo. The care and understanding of how that app allowed its users an experience, by being low level in nature, allowed the higher ideals shared to be the highlight. Focusing on presenting information not in layers, instead cleanly and transparently, allowed deeper meaningful human connections. Thank you for taking that torch and doing it more than justice.
  • Mostly excellent app

App dev won’t enable Mac downloads but allows iPad downloads. Seems malicious since we’re already paying a subscription.

So worth paying for! No ads is great, and the dev keeps adding new stuff that’s great!
