It’s cool. Game of the year? Not in my opinion. I guess if you are a big fan of poker this will be fun and familiar. I think this game just happened to catch a really good wave of marketing.

I didn’t get it at first: poker with no opponents? That’s kind of boring and I’m sure there are a ton of poker apps; never played it digitally, to be honest. Even after playing thru the tutorial I had a “meh” level of enthusiasm and put it away. But I kept hearing about it from reviewers I trust and I therefore decided to play a few more levels. I now play it by myself on the phone, I got it on steam so that my wife and I can play together, and she also plays it on her phone. I’ve no joke found myself playing the phone version while waiting for my wife between moves on the computer version… So, what is it? It’s a poker on a phone without opponents… but each joker substantially changes the rules; a couple jokers changes the game drastically. New cards are earned and added to the deck, not just increasing probabilities but introducing abilities. Cards can be destroyed or modified. Point values of hands can and must be upgraded. The synergies are such that with careful planning and some luck you can have a successful run playing only pairs or single cards. Minor spoiler ahead. The game starts with high raking hands earning a few hundred points but that doesn’t last more than a couple blinds. I once had a run where, by the 5th ante, 4 card flushes and straights were scored, flushed and straights were worth way more than a royal flush or a four of a kind, red cards counted as single suit, and black cards counted as a single suit, and a point yielding joker was upgraded with each 4-card hand. It was great until a boss fight where all heart cards were debuffed, which apparently debuffed all the diamonds and all the wild cards… barely beat that one. Lost on the next ante because the boss requires 300k points and I was scoring 10-20 k per hand; a ton up to that point. Spoiler over. Every run is different and you unlock new cards just by playing so, unless you reuse rng seeds, no run will be the same. Finally, the game is saved when you switch to other apps or close the phone so no progress is lost; I frankly can’t believe how many game devs haven’t figured that out yet. I can play a hand in the elevator, a few hands in the bathroom, and way too many hands in bed instead of sleeping. My one minor gripe is that syncing across devices is finicky but that maybe Game Center’s fault. Anyway, get this game and have your life ruined like the cool kids.

This is an amazing game but for some reason it is not tracking when I’m beating the challenges so I can’t unlock new ones

This game has got me so hooked! I discovered it watching Markiplier play it and I was so interested that I looked to see if they sell it on PS5, and they DO! I played for hours on end with no breaks for the first time in forever, it’s super enjoyable and a nice relaxing game with a lot of power ups!
  • Should have been 5 stars if syncing and achievements work

I really like this game. However, things are not working correctly for the Mac version. 1) The achievement does not sync to the game center profile, even if there’s a in-game pop up. 2) Syncing does not work properly. You cannot resume games from another device. Once these issues are fixed, the game itself will be automatically 5-star.
