its on the level on minecraft and tetris yet more fun, deep, and somehow more accessible than any of them. You have to experience this masterpiece made by only a single mere mortal.

It’s addictive but the kind of addictive that leaves you scarred and emaciated from not eating because you are sure this one time it’s not gonna pull some impossible shenanigans that end the game and makes fun of you. I’m on my third iPhone from throwing it across the room after getting the best possible lineup and then it throws something hateful at me. It’s just not fair and it’s so completely obvious that there’s a random number for your run that determines when (not if) they are going to totally screw you over. Whoever made this game had to have been abused as a child. There’s no reason for this much hatefulness.

I wish I could rate this version of Balatro well but there are some terrible bugs currently. 1. I’ve won multiple runs including the tutorial run and my profile shows no wins. Play stats in general are wrong. 2. My previous play through unlocked new decks but upon coming back none of them are unlocked. This includes a few jokers, tarot cards, etc. 3. When you unlock something during a run the game repeatedly tells you endlessly that you unlocked that thing. For example, I unlocked a joker and about every 5-10 seconds I get notified again. If I then unlock more things I get notified repeatedly about both things until the run ends. It’s very annoying. I have this game on steam and none of the bugs I’m reporting here appear on the Steam release. Overall the games mechanics and play loop I love but you can’t screw up progression mechanics and save data on a rogue like otherwise playthroughs are meaningless. I wanted this on my iPhone because I can’t bring my steam deck with me all the time. Currently not worth playing in its current state.

This game made me feed my family for once

The game play is great. I wish that the video -> windowed setting would apply on launch on macOS. I also wish that more state would sync between macOS and iOS. Deck unlocked seem to, but stake wins don’t.

Update: Mar 2025. The killer bug returns after seemingly being fixed for a few weeks. I’ve been stuck playing the same boring intro decks due to this killer bug. How is this not fixed yet? Balatro+ is a fun, replayable game great for filling gaps especially sitting on airplanes or in hotel rooms. But it has a a longstanding bug where it doesn’t unlock achievements after successful runs. Complete the 8/8 antes with a deck? Nope, doesn’t recognize it and white stake remains locked and red stake isn’t unlocked? Trying to get the next deck unlocked? Prepare to play and win a deck a dozen times before it finally recognizes a victory and unlocks the achievement. I’ve emailed support and response is basically, “yeah it’s a bug, we know, bummer”

Tried it out To see what all the hype was about. It’s ok. It’s kind of boring. Reminds me of pickleball.
