  • Changed everything in one day

I’ve been struggling with my weight, especially with PCOS. I’ve tried “watching what I eat”, exercising... I wound up gaining more weight. Just one day using Noom, not only does it keep track of my workouts, it also shows where I was going wrong with my diet. I wasn’t eating enough, and when I was, it was all yellow/red foods. I was thinking that Big Mac meal I was eating once a day was ok, because that’s all I would eat during the day. The first day, I was able to see in real time my eating habits, and how they were all wrong. I didn’t do any courses, just meal/activity documentation, and it’s made a world of difference. Seriously, give it a try.

  • Like the weight loss approach not the app

I’m completing my free trial today and paying for the 6 month subscription because overall, I enjoy Noom’s approach to weight loss. The app needs some work, so I’m hoping some improvements will be made before my next payment. There’s two areas to consider for review: the weight loss approach and the app. Weight loss approach: I need the cognitive behavioral piece, which has been missing from all other programs I’ve tried in the past (WW, fad diets). I even did a medically supervised weight loss program. The difference, for me, is the daily lessons and quizzes which keep me engaged, and keep reminding me of my goal. The lessons are based on science, and having read more about their approach and seeing some results, I’m committing to it. Basically, I’m eating less calorie dense foods. Easy right? Sure, I can look for that information online and read all about it, but honestly I don’t have the time to do the research. Weight loss is work, and Noom is doing a lot of the leg work for me by breaking down information into bite sized bits and then reinforcing it days later for retention. My coach was super engaged the first week and I believe to be a real person. I enjoyed having a coach in my pocket to answer questions and cheer me on. I do have a question about some food and my energy level, messaged this morning, and not yet heard back. So some adjustments need to be made regarding communication expectations, especially in the first few weeks of beginning a new program. Ding a star for that. I haven’t yet been assigned to a group so I can’t honestly review it. I’m hoping I’ll be assigned to an engaging group as I’m putting thought into my bio and approach to communicating with them. I’ll rate that experience at another time. I wanted to sign up for the exercise add on, but it didn’t make sense to do that on the day I registered for a free trial. I researched the exercise plan on the app and didn’t find anything. I then read more reviews here and found one user who only received a pdf which isn’t at all personal in my opinion, so I’m skipping it. Noom shouldn’t offer it if one can’t try it first or give any other information on the program. As for the app.... The messaging between my coach functions well. But there’s no time stamp on the messages. I think this would be useful so there’s some accountability on both ends of communication. Love the research, articles and quizzes, and, that I can save them and refer to them in my library. I also love the recipes! Alas, there aren’t enough and it appears, based on looking through Noom’s Instagram page, they haven’t been refreshed in a looonnnng time. So Noom, consider your users and their learning curve: we need more recipes which sync nutritional information easily into the nutrition goals we’re striving to meet. Which brings me to the next issue: entering meals and foods. I find a range of options to record portions of foods. Sometimes I can choose a cup, for example, then just a tablespoon. Like I want to enter a cup of vinegar for a recipe and can’t because I can only choose a tablespoon or oz, and the app doesn’t allow me to customize the measuring of my ingredients. This makes entering my recipes a real pain. Further, I can’t upload recipes ahead of time. I can only add recipes when I’m adding them at meal time. Not a good strategy for planning. Other apps like LoseIt have that option, and it should be a cornerstone in your app, at least for paying subscribers. Finally, I’m wondering how calories are calculated? I’ve noticed some variations in Noom while other apps record calories as seen on labels. I’d like some clarity on that issue. Overall, I’m willing to pay to see how the weight loss program alone works for me, but the app won’t be worth the high cost in the long term without some major improvements.

  • Food for Thought

I’ve tried other weight loss programs; Noom is different in that it pulls back the curtain on our connection with food. Noom uses research to help us understand our food choices, habits, and how we can use science to uncover the healthier self living inside each of us.
  • Stress Free Weight Loss

    By GamecockMama
For the first time in my years of weight loss attempts I’m not having the constant negative dialogue with myself. The app makes it easy for me to focus on my big picture/long term goal and remind myself this is a marathon, not a sprint.
  • Noom is for keeps!

I haven’t tried a lot of weight loss programs. Noom seems to have the right idea. It is based in science, and is designed to help one achieve and maintain weight loss. It debunks a lot of the pseudoscience and myths about weight loss and helps one understand why weight loss is hard. It’s also fun, and forgiving when you fall off the wagon. I believe if I stick with Noom (at the very reasonable cost of $130/4 months) that I will be successful.
  • Very Helpful.

    By Nana4Peace
NOOM has been very helpful. I love the approach and information. It’s working well for me. I do have one suggestion to improve your site. There are typos in almost every lesson so far. I was so surprised when I saw the first one that I almost didn’t continue with the program. It seemed unprofessional. Your company’s approach is academic - psychological, scientific, and sociological. Finding errors in spelling and/or wording looks unfinished. It has actually kept me from recommending your program. It reduces your credibility. I chose to overlook it, but it did lead me to question the reliability of the information. Errors happen but many errors looks questionable. I really like your product. I think it can help a lot of people. I hope you will take the time to go back over the lessons to finish editing it. Thank you for listening.
  • Great app!

Noom has been life-changing for me in how I approach food and exercise. The knowledge it imparts has helped me drop almost 20 lbs. and still going!

The program is not terrible, but the system is designed to make the subscriber believe that they will pay a monthly fee for it. It is a 6-months payment (advertised as in installments). If the program is cancelled before that, you still have to pay for the whole period.
