  • E-paper glitches

Those who enjoy the Globe’s e-paper format may be less than enthused with a couple details compared to the classic app. The most inconvenient change is that all of each issue’s pages are numbered 1-100 instead of by section, so readers have to do math in their head to get to the jump page of a story. It also freezes periodically while flipping through the pages, so you have to exit the edition and reload it to resume.

Your editorials too liberal for me. Would like less bias opinions. Respectfully, Paul - that was 1year ago - today’s e paper for a 74 yr old guy is very frustrating, print very small, so you can get two pages on one. New format has way too much info not on e paper talk of old stories you did a year ago. I think I will be cancelling soon, not that you care. You should take a pole in the paper on this. The paper just keeps getting better- the expansion in more of New England is much appreciated too. Lots of former residents keep up with area news- we are Bostonians in our hearts( even if we can no longer afford to live there)

The app worked ok… But the update shipped in March 2024 broke most of the functionality. The Globe should either purchase its app from the Washington Post or the Wall Street Journal. This thing needs fixing asap. Update as of 4/12/2024 - the Globe sent me a note via my Apple mail account asking that I contact the developers directly and provided an email link. The link is broken, just like their app.

Most apps I use have a way to zoom in on a photo. With the Boston Globe app, I can’t seem to do it. I have to go to the web version. I like seeing the recent improvements however like finally being able to see and add comments. UPDATE: the developer contacted me. I tried again and it works now. Not sure if there was a bug fix but either way… no complaints now.
  • Why changed?

I used to love this app … to read the paper on my iPad, one page at a time, print the crossword puzzle, click on a comic to make just that one bigger, navigate thru the sections, realize when I was at the last page. Yup … loved it. Now … nope can’t do any of those things. Don’t have a clue … not intuitive … not user-friendly anymore. Yes …. Change change change …. But for me it wasn’t broken! Not a happy camper anymore…. And the help desk doesn’t have a tablet to step thru things to help me, tho they thought they did. I don’t see any of the things that the automated lady tries to help me with … yup … not a happy camper anymore. And I was thanked for being a customer since 2022 (when I switched from paper delivery). But gee I’ve been a Globe customer for more years than I can count! Alas …..
  • Navigation needs work

Overall happy with the app, with the exception of navigating back after reading an article. The old version had an “x” in the upper right-hand corner of the article. After reading, you could close it and land back where you had clicked through. Now you have to back up to “Home” which brings you all the way back to the very top of the front page, so you have to scroll all the way back down to get to where you left off. Annoying! (I read on an iPhone)
