Word has been great in the past, but subscription costs are now rising with the justification that their plagiarism machine, “Copilot”, is now included baseline. There’s an intrusive Copilot button right next to the bold/italic/underline buttons now, which is easy to accidentally push. It doesn’t do anything if you’ve disabled “connected experiences” but the button is still there for some reason. Overall, a nice push toward finding an alternative. Thanks, Microsoft.
  • Get rid of the Copilot icons NOW.

I am about to drop Microsoft as a company entirely. I opened Word today and found that there is a persistent Copilot icon that appears in the margin of every single line as I type, regardless of having Copilot turned off or not. This is incredibly distracting, I do not want an icon popping up constantly. A pop up also appears every single time I open Word, begging me to try Copilot. No. No. No. Remove it or I’m out.

With moderately complex documents (embedded objects, comments, track changes, 100+ pages), the app often quits before fully opening each document. For the documents that do open, the app will regularly quit at the same places in each document while scrolling through the pages or while scrolling through the comments. I stopped before attempting any edits. I might be able to use word iOS for short personal documents. But not for the ones I get paid to work on. Update - crashes even more with the copilot menu item in the toolbar. Please add an option to disable copilot.

It doesn’t work! Recent changes have taken away my ability to search my library files on my phone. This is a serious screw up! Please put it back the way it was. It worked just fine and did not need fixing.

File takes a little too long to open.

How do companies like Microsoft become so successful, they cannot fail? Monopoly. One the government isn’t willing or able to tackle. Customers try to get away from them, but it requires a constant elevation toward new and different, and also not as good. Microsoft itself, is not so good as it once was, but it grinds on, mostly on those of us who just want to type a page and hit print, or save. They have an answer for that, save here, no there, or in this format, oh no, not that one, this new format. There is always an evolution, toward something that isn’t about good, it is about away. Away from where they were. They aren’t alone, google is there with them, then there is apple. Too much to say. Just this then, Microsoft Word is a predatory platform of mediocrity. It was never GREAT, but it was pretty good. Now after we’ve paid for it, and paid for it, and continue to pay for it….
  • Toolbar not working

After the first day of the new trial the toolbar didn’t list the list of type styles except for some of the As. The toolbar itself was very faint and would not work. Not happy at all. And now it won’t even let me submit this review.
