Every time I am in the middle of a lesson, Duolingo freezes up causing me to restart. I am unable to continue after restarting my device and the app multiple times. Terrible.

If this would have been a year ago I would have given 5 stars. But now each time I do a lesson I get more and more frustrated with the new setup. And they got rid of EXTREMELY valuable learning guides for each section. I’ve been learning Italian and before I was really picking it up well and felt like I was actually learning something. Now, I’m confused in every lesson, I’m constantly making mistakes due to contextual errors, and trust me it’s not because I can’t do it, its because they took away all the learning aspects. What does a “basic 15 second need to know conversation” teach me as the reference for an entire section!? Absolutely nothing! Before, each section provided the list of words you were learning in all forms, pronunciation guides, explanations on why certain words were used instead of others. Now, it’s as I said above, a random weird “need to know, basic conversation”. ABSOLUTELY POINTLESS! And I have looked all over this app for what they had before to at least reference and it doesn’t exist!! So instead of being able to do a quick study if I need it, I’m forced to do review lessons on each step of the previous sections that I want to review, HOWEVER, the reviews now show new material that I haven’t even learned yet!! I went to the very first lesson on the very first section and my entire review was of the lesson I had just completed/new material I hadn’t learned yet. What is the point of the review if it’s not of previously learned material!!?? Oh and I accidentally purchased super duper for a year because I forgot to cancel the free trial. Here’s a tip, DONT do it. There is absolutely no difference between the two other than the fact that you have unlimited hearts. That’s it. For all the quick challenges on the leaderboard or for the side challenges throughout each section, if the time runs out then the time runs out. You have to purchase the booster timer to stay in the game… like not a single difference. And nothing else was added as a perk other than the unlimited hearts lol. And now during the lessons they do this thing where two words will be shown and the voice says it and you have to pick the right word. Normally, that would be an excellent tool for sound recognition and reading comprehension, but the issue I have is, like the theme of my post, they are words i a. Have not learned yet. And b. There is no translation given. So I’m learning a word that I can recognize when said, but idk what it means. So in the real world if I heard it, how would I respond? Idk.. good question.. because I don’t know what it means!! Idk I feel like all the great learning functions were taken away and replaced with more “fun and games”. Don’t get me wrong I love fun and games, and I like to incorporate stuff like that when I’m learning new things. But when it’s all fun and games and there should be some learning involved then it’s just a waste of time, so I’ll probably start looking for another way to finish learning Italian. Get it together, Duo!!

i dont mind ads, but the constant push of the premium option and introduction of the limited mistakes is really, Really annoying. i dont know what happens if i run out of mistakes, and i would rather that not be an outcome at all, especially since the app didnt start off this way. i used it a few years ago and liked it.

I’m really enjoying Duo! I’m using the free version so there’s a couple adds but i like watching the little people when I get things right. They’re definitely little cheerleaders pushing you to wanna learn more!

My 6 year old autistic son told me he wanted to start learning Spanish because he met our new neighbors from Mexico and they have a son just a few years older than him. He tells me, “Daddy how do you say, ‘I love you’ in Spanish?” And i told him, idk. So I thought hard and i thought long on what was the best solution, because believe me, even though I’m all about learning new things, language isn’t my forte. Then I remembered Duolingo! I remember trying to use the app to learn myself years ago but i was just never committed. However, with my son I feel as though it’s just that right time to learn a new language and these neighbors sparked that idea while Duolingo is successfully executing it! We are currently on a almost 50 day streak of Duolingo now and i feel myself thinking in Spanish ALL THE TIME !! It’s really incredible and i would never use any other language learning app. Although we haven’t gotten to the section on how to say I love you, my son constantly tells me… “Te mo Dad. ”

I finished the Arabic lessons in 9 months. The so called “daily refresh” is an insult. They repeat the same 10 or 15 sentences over and over again. Jerks!
  • I can’t seem to get to work

I can’t get the support to work in the app! I earned the 30 min friendship bonus and clicked to use it and it took and did not give it to me. I still had 24 hours to use but it is gone. Now I am dropping fast in standings. I don’t appreciate it at all!

I absolutely LOVE Duolingo and have been using it forever now (And their marketing with Duo is incredible). While there are endless pros to this app, there’s one thing that upsets me. I get super ticked off with the fact the Duolingo can move your spot forward or backwards with your permission. I’ve been practicing Russian for seven months now and was on section 1, unit 8! To my surprise, I opened the app and found myself back an entire unit. While I have been practicing (and doing pretty good with little mistakes) I don’t see why I had to be moved back. I also had an 142 day streak, and the app glitched and somehow I’m back to 0 :( So, while I absolutely love the app, I wish they could add a feature where they ask you if they can move you back first before doing so. It would mean a lot if the developers can write back and let me know if there is someway that I can prevent this from happening.
