  • Worst App to learn languages

    I got this app a year ago and I was wanting to learn a few languages but, nobody is helping each other learn a language. Most of the time it is just people flirting with each other and acting like this app is a dating app. This is the worst app to learn languages you can probably find a better app than this. I was so disappointed in it😔🫠😕

    This app used to be better. It used to be easier to get people to see your moments and people used to message me first all the time. It also seems like there are a lot fewer moments to scroll through. It’s just too slow now. Although for some reason I did find it much easier to get exposure and interact with other users when my language was set to French as opposed to German. I also get random notices saying someone chatted with me, even though no one did. I mentioned it to HT, and they just gave me a very confusing response, so idk about that. Overall it’s an ok way to meet a language partner. I wouldn’t recommend staying on the app after you’ve found someone though.

    I like the app for the most part. Sometimes people treat it like a dating app, or you might have people ask you to sponsor them to get citizenship in your country. But the ads just kept getting worse and worse. I think most people leave the app to chat on Whatsapp where you won’t be bombarded with countdown timer ads. I found some great people to chat with and left to chat with them on Whatsapp b/c them and I couldn’t handle the ads.

  • Issues with weird users and account isssues

    I have never written a review, but I felt as though I had to for this app. When I first got the app months ago I didn’t expect how amazing it would be. It truly was helpful and I found myself talking to a bunch of people who really helped me with the language I was learning and I found myself aiding individuals with learning English, especially people who truly desire to learn the language for educational purposes. Although the app gave me a wonderful experience, I found myself coming across strange users. While I made a bunch of friends who I could teach and would teach me, I also came across creeps who attempted to flirt with me or made nasty comments. It overwhelmed me, so I made a new account. I believed that if I did so I would have a fresh start, but I just ended up coming across even more creeps. I continued this cycle until the app notified me that I couldn’t make another account anymore. I wasn’t aware there was a limit on the amount of accounts you could make. At first I was really upset because the app had really helped me. I had such a wonderful time and I felt as though talking to people who’s native language was the language I was learning taught me even more than my teacher. Despite all that, I was happy to take a break from all the weird men I talked to on the app. Still, after months I really regret making all those accounts. I would greatly appreciate a second chance to make one last account because the app really helped me and I find myself being stuck in learning new things about the language I’ve taken. I guess this is a warning to those who are in the process of making the mistake I made. Don’t make multiple accounts! I hope the problem with weird users has been fixed since then or the developers are finding ways to suspend users like that. I wish I could use the app again.

    So I got this app to help me learn a new language because many ppl said it would help me. so I get in at first it was really easy to make an account but then when I went to go like finish my account, it was asking me weird questions that app shouldn’t be asking and I remember that one of them was what was my blood type. I thought it was a little weird, but like I didn’t think anything of it, and I didn’t fill it out when I went to go talk with people first of all it’s really annoying how much you have to pay and like the free version just isn’t even fun. so I start talking to this girl that was my age. You’re hitting off really well and then I go onto another app and I’m just like looking on the app waiting for like respond to me until I realize that my microphone is being used. The good thing about Apple is that it shows you when your microphone is being used so I was really weirded out when the only other app that I had opened was this app. mind you this app literally never asked me if they could have access to my microphone so that was when I immediately went to go delete the app. I had a really bad experience. I don’t know if anyone else at this experience overall I don’t think this app is safe.

    This is a Chinese app, and it's not safe. I've found there are too many scammers, and HelloTalk doesn't take serious action against them. I bought their VIP membership but still ended up removing the app. I talked to a guy for 3 months who had many accounts. He tried to get as much information from me as possible. Eventually, they found out where I live and work. They also have many accounts on the Tandem app. They seemed suspicious, and I discovered they are involved in pig butchering scams. I have blocked them, but I am worried they might use my photos to scam people or harm my family and friends.

  • Greedy app that used to be mostly free

    I started using in the beginning of 2018. And back then you can do the following things for free. Look for a partner by country, gender, age etc. You can see who clicked on your profile and go see their's. You could see who's nearby, hide your visits, FREE TRANSLATIONS, and Best of all they used to let you start as many chats as you want. NOW the minimum you need to pay is 12.99$ a month or $79.99 a year for everything above. It's ridiculous how greedy these apps have become. Selfish developers charging for exactly what you are going on the app to do in the first place. You should be ashamed of yourself for charging so much money to interact and create new friends for people around the world.
