  • Training Peaks is “Peak”

I am a high school runner and have been using TrainingPeaks (TP) to communicate with my coach throughout the summer. I work with three coaches: a strength coach during the summer, a year-round running coach, and his assistant. Through TP, they can access my entire running history, tracking every run I’ve ever completed. We consistently update TP with details about past runs, including comments and notes on how I felt during each workout.

  • Many features, mediocre support

I’m forced to use this app because of my coach, and at first glance it seems to be packed with features. However, their support is mediocre at best - for example, I got rid of the Apple Watch and replaced with with Garmin, but it still tells me to connect it so I can upload the workouts when they change. Support suggested uninstalling and reinstalling - that didn’t help. Other support cases are “known bugs” that they have no ETA for fixing. Finally, the user interface is old, tired and navigation could use improvements.

Wanted training program for first 50 mile gravel ride. Bought TP and first workout was 4 hour ride… WTH. Cancelling subscription.

I’ve been using TrainingPeaks with a coach who lives a few states away, and it is a great platform for easy communication even if you never actually meet your coach in person. Having the option of buying pre-built workout plans is great as well. Recent incorporation of strength programming and indievelo (now TPVirtual) has me sold on being a long-term user of TrainingPeaks.

TP just added the virtual hub. You can upload your bike fit file to the calendar and ride the course and have the custom workout running, or just ride one of the courses. All of your training data in one place with the metrics you need. The only issue I have is that the calendar is not cached so there is no access to it when off line of office net. It needs to have the ability to cache the calendar at least one week back and one week forward. Other than that, it’s an amazing tracker.

TrainingPeaks is an exceptional tool for anyone serious about tracking their fitness and training goals. Its user-friendly interface makes it incredibly easy to log workouts and monitor progress. The software works seamlessly across mobile devices and computers, ensuring you can stay connected to your fitness plan no matter where you are. One of the standout features is its ability to integrate with numerous other applications and devices, providing a streamlined experience for tracking performance metrics. Whether you’re an endurance athlete or just starting your fitness journey, TrainingPeaks offers detailed insights and tools to help you achieve your goals. Highly recommend!

Paid $79 and only had access for a week! Now app asking for more money to continue. I paid for an 8 week training program. There is no one to even contact regarding my billing. Stay away!
  • I like the app but…

I can’t buy any training plans from the app on my phone. Seems ridiculous!
  • Really wanted to like this app

I really wanted to like this app, but it takes me almost 20 minutes just to log in. This is a result of its incompatibility with any remote other than the original 1st gen AppleTV remote. Not everyone uses a 1st gen AppleTV remote, and if you don’t, it’s an absolute nightmare to simply press up/down/left/right and enter. Furthermore, many people like myself have their AppleTV installed in another room, and use a smart remote to control it from greater distances than the Apple Remote allows. So each time I need to navigate or click something, I have to get off the bike, run to another room, click the remote, and then come back and get back on the bike. If the app were compatible with other remotes (like every other app on the planet!) this wouldn’t be an issue.
