I feel I am learning better than with other apps. I like how the lessons are organized and the AI ratings of my speech are helpful.
  • Much more detailed and realistic

I highly recommend it’s got real fluent speakers who do corrections and videos that help with fluency by native speakers much more effective than duo for sure.

Honestly best language learning app I have ever come across! The fact that I can get feedback from native speakers is very valuable. It is so worth it!

I prefer its user friendliness over Duolingo and that you can use it for as long as you want each day. The ads are kind of obnoxious but it’s a small complaint.

Compared to some of the other language learning apps I have really enjoyed this one, even the free version which I’m using. It offers a decent amount of content and basics to get you started for the featured languages. I’ll probably try out the premium to get more speaking exercises.

I’d previously left a fairly critical review of this app expressing frustration with its lack of polish and placement tests, but after using it for a month I’ve come around on it and will readily recommend it over the other services in this space. I’m using Busuu to learn Japanese, and the thing I really appreciate that it does and Duolingo doesn’t is attempt to provide context and make connections between the information it’s presenting. As an example, Duolingo told me that 私 (watashi) means “I,” but never explained that there are other ways to refer to yourself and what connotations this specific form carries. Busuu did that though, because it Japanese course is a lot more thoughtful and seems designed for people who want to actually learn the language, not just memorize the kinds of functional phrases that’d help them get around an airport or train station.

I like it so far. Some of the ads are extremely long, though, and some don’t let you mute the sound, which is so unfortunate. I don’t like how it shows me exercises from people who don’t speak my target language. I’m learning German; I consider it a waste of my time to correct a Spanish or Chinese speaker’s English. I think Busuu could lean more into the match-making aspect of their app. It would be cool if I could gain a German penpal through Busuu. My last comment is that using Busuu just sort of feels slow. It’s not that the app lags, it’s just the feel of it. I’m not sure how to better explain it haha sorry.

One feature I would really love if Busuu got was a dark mode for night time for iPhone. It’s really hard on the eyes to be looking at white at night. This app definitely teaches much better than Duolingo since the instructions are in my home language English and not the language I am learning (Japanese). I like the setup of the language and that it has multiple types of courses including travel courses. Being able to do exercises and get feedback from native speakers is also pretty cool. The price of $14/month is very reasonable too compared to other apps that charge like $50 per month. Overall I love the app.

This has actually helped me learn Spanish, because it teaches me how to say words with English-word examples, and why. The grammar is also explained and taught well.
  • Best language app!

Soooo much better than Duo. Idiomatic expressions are great.
