  • The ads. stop.

This app would be great without the ads. It is incredibly inconvenient to be writing a paper and need to use the app, but the ads are popping up every few seconds. After years of waiting for them to fix this, I have given up and deleted it.

  • Making me pay Again?

I bought the upgraded version of this app years ago. I had the offline dictionary. Now, the app wants me to pay them Another three dollars... for what I already had? How is that even legal? How can I ever trust you guys? How often will I have to Re-Buy "upgrades"... just to keep the features I already had? For shame!
  • Lost all of my upgrade purchases

Before you suggest, I've deleted and reloaded the app, and I've tried the "restore upgrades" option. Last week I had all of the upgrades, this week - none. I've read through the reviews for the last several months and this is a very common complaint for this app. Certainly not going to repurchase, just to have them possibly disappear again. This is truly disappointing and I'll look for a more reliable app. It's unfortunate, because otherwise I've used and liked it for years.

The pronunciation part doesn’t work. But you can find the words that you look for.

I just wanted to take a moment and share about this app...... I love it! I really like the part where you can press the speaker and it pronounces every word you search. Especially, when you’re not familiar with how to say it, either in your head or out loud! I am reading a book called “Perfect Health” by Deepak Chopra and I am very interested in Hinduism which he frequently talks about throughout this book and all the other books he has written. So, thank you for this wonderful app!
  • Doesn’t change orientation

I just discovered when I purchased the iPad Pro that the app has no orientation mode. In today’s modern world of technology I don’t know why this app hasn’t been updated to do orientation mode on a large screen. Very unproductive since I refer to the app when writing papers.
  • What happened?!?! Lowered its standards

I have loved dictionary.com since I was in 6th grade, and yet I loved way more the easiness of finding synonyms and learning about the etymology of the words. Now, unfortunately, it has really terrible word choices for its synonyms. As an example, if I to have searched the word “scholar” back then, I would get words like “savant”, “erudite”, “specialist”, “expert”. Now if look up the same word, I get “egghead”, “gnome”, “tool”, “bookworm”. What happened?!? It was so reliable back then :(
  • Compared to MW, this is more bang for the buck

I originally used the free version of this and was frustrated with the pop ups and constant crashing (every couple search, it crashes and you have to reopen). So, I paid for Merriam-Webster and I will say I got frustrated with that because definitions are short, no second or third options for pronunciation, some words don’t show up (I guess that version is based on abridged? Many words I found on here, I couldn’t find on MW). So I re-downloaded this and for a few bucks more that MW, you get tons more feature. I find the Learners, Idioms, and Example Sentence really useful. If you use this everyday, just shell out the 6 bucks. It’s the price of a Frappuccino, for Christ’s sake.
  • Too many ads

I’ve had this app on my phone for many years. A dictionary/ thesaurus is an important tool to navigate your way through your own writing and reading, but the ads have become a major distraction/ inconvenience.
