My kids bought me the bird buddy for my birthday. We loved it so much I asked for the Hummingbird model. Both work well. We love how “AI” identifies each species

App stinks. Errant content inactivity. Awful AI identification. Buy a cheap feeder & mount a garden variety wildlife cam nearby. Save money. Better results.
  • Great Camera lousy AI

I am an avid birder and have backyard feeders for a long time. My spouse bought this for me as a gift. I enjoy the feeder and camera, but the app is literally terrible with its identification. It will mistake doves for sparrows. It identifies a cardinal as a type of tropical bird not found in my area. Not to mention the difficult differences in sparrows that are hard even for seasoned birders It would seem that you could ignore this feature but the postcards are set by species. When changing to correct species it will often add the species instead of changing it. When I correct species it only does so on my collection not to others I have shared the feed with. Good hardware bad software.

This app does not seem to recognize many times that birds stop at the feeder. When it does recognize a bird, it takes a very long time to feed it down to my app notification-- like hours to days later. It is not very intuitive to navigate around the app. It could be so much better if they had better product vision &/or software writers.

If you enjoy bird watching, I recommend this little device to really get some quality photos and information about our feathery friends!

I have had this feeder for a while now and have had numerous issues, especially with it not capturing hummingbird visitors. I get hundreds of visits per day yet it never captures any of them - if I’m lucky it will get one. I did ALL of the trouble shooting the company wanted me to do, but despite proving to them this feeder camera and app were not working properly they did nothing. I continued to get the run around by being told to repeat the same troubleshooting steps over and over. I asked for a replacement multiple times when they would confirm that the device was not working properly but they would ignore the replacement question and again would ask me to do the same troubleshooting steps. After MONTHS of doing all the repeated troubleshooting they had asked for they stopped all communication. Troubleshooting steps including troubleshooting the application not just the camera device, which is why I am leaving this review not just where I got the device from, but also here in the App Store since it was also regarding the application. The issues with the camera and the app are horrible. It is now a year later since receiving this feeder and I have still continued to use it since it was so expensive but also hoping one day it will start working properly but it hasn’t yet. I have purchased 50 plus other brand bird feeders, some for myself and others for gifts, to which there have been zero issues with those and they were much more affordable and the apps are way better. Not only that but I can control 100% of how the camera works. This app limits everything you can do. It goes into a sleep mode whenever it determines by your time zone - which the sleep mode starts 4 hours too early and it wakes 2 hours late in comparison to when the hummingbirds start to feed. On the rare occasion of it capturing - notification is delayed, it labels birds wrong calling a hummingbird a mockingbird and a wasp a hummingbird. When going in to view the once in a blue moon capture it says there are no postcards to view. The application/camera settings are extremely limited. You are not able to choose the recording length, the camera quality, there is no option of a night vision since it shuts the camera down before it’s even dark and doesn’t wake till the sun has been shining for hours, any imaging it may capture expires within several days, and being the camera doesn’t allow for a memory card means all the more that you are 100% at the mercy of this app. Do yourself a favor - skip purchasing this feeder because the app, camera and customer service is a joke. They gladly take your money but do NOT stand behind their product nor app.

I never submit reviews, but I had to this time. I was excited for this gift. Cannot begin to describe just how utterly disappointed I am with this piece of garbage. Absolutely terrible. Terrible design. Impossible to keep it charged. Does not connect. Wasted too much time trying to set it up. Not worth it at all.

I was so excited to get a Bird Buddy after being given a cheap $60 feeder camera. The picture and video quality seemed amazing and the actual feeder is visually appealing. I got the feeder, set it up, and was waiting to start getting postcards. And waiting. And waiting. My cheap feeder was constantly sending me notifications and videos, but bird buddy was sending maybe one or two. It wasn’t because birds weren’t visiting, it’s because the Bird Buddy either misses visits or the AI discards them. I capture so many more visits just viewing the livestream than the Bird Buddy does in its own. I can take pictures but have to do a screen recording if I want to take a video instead of being able to manually start a video. Loading the livestream takes forever. I’m constantly having to completely close the app multiple times to get the livestream to connect because it takes several minutes, whereas the cheap one connects within seconds. The solar panel barely charges the battery. In two days, my battery is down to 64% and it’ll say it’s charging, but the actual percentage of battery left only goes down. My husband had to make a custom mount for the feeder because you have to pay for a wall mount on top of the $250. And if you want a better perch for the birds to land on, you also have to pay extra for that. I’ve seen many birds fly at the feeder looking for a place to land only to get frustrated and go looking on the ground. I will say, the picture and video quality when it does capture a visit is really good. That function is the part I’m the happiest with. The AI seems to identify the birds pretty well, it’s only mixed up a few birds that look pretty similar so I won’t fault it for that. If only the rest of it functioned even remotely well.

Got the feeder as a gift for whole family. We all love it! I also love getting notifications when there are visitors. Also like that I can edit the species if incorrect! I ordered add ons so looking forward to new visitors!
