1password data does not sync timely with the desktop app and it often gives me errors when updating a password. I never know if it really syncs. Things really went south when Agilebits decided to switch away from Native Mac code to some overlay that can work cross platform. Everything that was great about the UI and the reliability have been lacking since. I use 1password for the family so switching is not a quick action as I need to coordinate with everyone in the family.

I’ve been a longtime user of 1Password, starting around 2012, and I miss the days of the native 1Password app, where navigating around the app was seamless, felt like a top class application, and integration with Safari was nearly flawless. Now, with 1Password 8 built on the electron platform, navigating around feels laggy, and just an overall poor experience. The integration with Safari has also been getting more and more unreliable, and I often have to type in my master password 3 or 4 times to get it to unlock properly. AgileBits, PLEASE consider a native app again on macOS. This app used to be a pleasure to use, and now it’s a constant source of frustration.
  • A constant source of frustration

The only consistent fact about 1password is that the moment it is working, the team will find a way to cause it to break again. It never behaves the same way twice, and constantly finds new ways to let me down when I’m just trying to find my password for a site or app. Zero stars.
  • The lack of native is a bummer.

The old 1PW7 UI was much better integrated and way less corporate and more intuitive. What a shame.

I feel trapped by 1Pass because I have all my credentials and 2 factor with them, but if you are a safari user on the fence please give other solutions a try first. I have problems multiple times a day as if this was built by people who have no idea how browser extensions work. I don't know what happened to this company or why, probably the usual corporate greed, but 1P for safari is truly a miserable piece of software that makes my life more difficult every day I use it.
  • Keeps getting less reliable

When this extension works, it’s great, and quite a bit more powerful than the macOS native password manager’s Safari integration. But…it only works like 1/5 of the time. Getting it to work again always involves some combination of unloading and reloading the extension, restarting Safari, pushing the reload extension button on the extension’s error message, restarting the 1Password desktop app, turning the app’s extension support off and on, or even rebooting. It’s gotten to the point where I’m basically not using the Safari extension, just using global auto type from the 1Password desktop app to fill passwords (and relying on the macOS keychain for passkeys).

One minute it works, next it won’t respond. Very glitchy. Please fix.

Ever since Version 8 the Safari version wont work at all, nothing happens when I click on the 1 password icon.
  • Auto-submit form re-enables after every version update

Not sure where the bug lies, but it re-enables auto-submit after every time the extension updates. Additionally it regularly can’t talked to 1password in the 8.0 era. Still going on after months. I wish they focused on getting parity with the stability they used to be known for.
  • Just doesn’t work on Safari

It never unlocks and pops up options to fill passwords in Safari no matter how many times I click on it, or open the app from launch pad.
