Wish there was an option to add videos.

I really enjoy the interface of the app the design is beautiful. The way it’s set up to take you through the recipe while you’re cooking is very convenient you can swipe back and forth between instructions and ingredients and it highlight the step you’re currently on in the instructions. I love the layout it’s very visually appealing. There’s some features I wish it had though like scanning a recipe from a photo already on your phone I also want more widgets like favorite recipes or maybe quick add buttons. But overall I really enjoy the app even though it has less features than similar apps I still prefer to wait for this app to add features when the recipe walkthrough is as easy as it is.

Great app. I wish it honored markdown for formatting. ## or ** or bullet points don’t work.
  • So close to perfect

I used to use Paprika religiously until I found Mela. Design wise it’s incredibly well made, but it falls short in a few ways. Importing from a website is better than Paprika but still not fool proof. Categories are somewhat haphazardly implemented and there is no way to nest or organize your categories which creates a very long scrollable list, and without going into this list and finding a category, there’s no way to filter. Would be great if you could filter by category in the top search, or search through existing categories. I also don’t love the way images work as if you have a recipe as a photo and want to refer to that, there is no way to maximize the image by tapping which seems like a missed opportunity. In general the app seems like it’s in a bit of a maintenance mode, which is disappointing, but it’s still very good. I’ve tried making these suggestions directly to the developer but never received a response, so the dev is not exactly responsive.

I absolutely love this app. I used to have so many bookmarks of recipes I wanted to try or I would make a recipe and the next time I wanted to make that dish I couldn’t find the exact same recipe. This app fixes all that.
  • A great start, but some features fall short.

This app has a lovely interface and is very user friendly in the browse and feeds features and it scrapes recipes from the Internet flawlessly. However there are some quirks that are big drawbacks and make some of the features impractical. 1) recipe categories- I don’t believe there is a way to edit all of the categories you create. When creating a new recipe you can only add a category by typing in the name and then categories you have previously created will show up above it, in the same format as spell check does. You also create new categories this way. If you accidentally create a duplicate category, there is no screen you can go to to edit all the categories and delete ones you don’t need. 2) The feature for creating a new recipe by taking a picture of a hard copy is not usable. When you scan the photo, you are instructed to select the text and choose a type of text. So you drag a box around the ingredients, for example, and select ingredients from the drop down. I could not find a way to do a second selection and choose a different text type as well for, say, the instructions. So, you continue to the next step and it uploads only the ingredients. I then looked for another option to take a new photo and upload the instructions or the title, but there is no way to do that. Essentially, if you want to scan a recipe in you can only scan in either the title, ingredients, or the instructions. You can’t upload all 3, which makes it unusable without manually entering a significant amount of text. If these features could be fixed, this would be the best app of its kind.
  • Almost perfect!

I have downloaded so many meal planning apps in the past week and this does 95% of what I’m looking for! ✔️calendar integration where I can move the meal (it would be awesome if it was automatically scheduled for prep & cook time, but I can manually change that) ✔️ integrates with reminders for my shopping list ✔️ easy to use recipe import 😐the scaling recipe is very basic double, half etc. some of the apps I’ve used gave the ability to scale by number of servings (ie: recipe is for 4 servings, but you need 5)… The only major things missing: ❌ widgets offered are very basic, I like a week overview, not just the next meal ❌ Can’t rate recipes. Also, you can leave notes, but those only appear on the calendar from what I can tell so far, so they won’t do any good next time you make it. I’d also love it if it saved when the last time a recipe was made. Originally, I thought there was no way to categorize recipes, but I found it!
  • Only one drawback. Otherwise perfect

The only pitfall is that imports could use more AI. Even from a website the importer doesn’t always get prep/cook/total times right. AI for importing from a document or a picture would be nice too, to make it more automatic. Great price. Small one-time payment instead of a repeated large payment. Beautiful. Makes baking and cooking significantly more satisfying. Great organization system. Having cookbooks/folders is always messy and makes my eye twitch every time a recipe could belong in multiple cookbooks/folders at once. Having only tags solves this problem. And tagging is easy in this app. Type and autofill or select from a dropdown menu. Compatible. Precisely efficient at creating recipes from websites, documents, photos, etc. Why do people use Paprika when there’s this app??

The app is great for people like me who like to save recipes from websites across the internet. The app is great for removing the wordiness from blogs and just transferring the main parts of the recipe. If there were a few enhancements this would be a close to perfect app. One, would be different rating systems to rate the recipes you have done and be able to see it at a glance. For example, thumbs up or down to tell if you like the recipe or not, and a difficulty scale to remember at a glance if the recipe was easy or hard to execute. If a recipe came out bad or good you could mark it and know it to either continue using it or maybe making adjustments or improvements. It would also be nice to group recipes by the rating as well. Two, would be a batch way to edit the categories of multiple recipes at a time. Finally, in each section of the recipe, e.g. the instructions, ingredients, etc., more editing controls would be nice. For example, having a fixed “select all” button, and a “copy”, “paste”, and “cut”button like the cook time, prep time, and total time sections have. Despite, lacking these enhancements it is still a great app and I am glad I purchased it.
