  • Glitchy and expensive

    The app really doesn’t work well and half the time it won’t let me open the stories I’m reading at all. They also introduced a new paid system for purchasing some stories but I already pay a subscription fee. I really like some of the stories they’ve added but I’m probably going to cancel my subscription and delete the app. They say that they are offering titles that wouldn’t normally be available due to contract rights but at least keep them in a separate tab instead of heavily advertising expensive titles mixed in with regular subscriptions or have a way to filter them out in the settings.

    I don’t have money to buy the monthly pass and things like that. I used to read on this app with the daily pass but one by one they started removing it from stories. Now I don’t know if they even have it at all anymore. They should have said something like in an announcement so I could delete this app earlier. They used to advertise that they weren’t like other manhwa apps like WEBTOON and tappytoon, but now they are. They are just like those other apps, except WEBTOON has free stories and it just has currency if you want to skip ahead, and tappytoon does have a daily pass on their app. So I guess manta isn’t like all those other apps, it’s worse. There’s no way to read a manwha on their app without paying. Seriously disappointed.

    I really like the stories on here. They do have some free series that are good. But I was reading a couple different ones and as soon as the season ended it changed to the unlimited where you have to pay for the stories. I was in the middle of reading them too. It was very annoying. I was looking forward to my new episode only to find out the entire series has been locked so I can no longer read it.

    They made it so you have to pay for every story there aren't any free stories and even when there WAS free stories you had to wait 24 hours but now you cant read the stories at all😡😡😡

  • Bummed on buying options while a yearly subscriber

    I’ve been subscribed for over a year and even switched to ‘unlimited’ which I have discovered isn’t even a subscription title anymore. Everything was unlimited with that original subscription. But the things changed. The novels started to be released for some comics. At first those were also free. At some point you had to purchase gems per volume, which honestly I didn’t mind and did with 3 stories. Then I noticed comics I had completed started to have a gem system that wasn’t in place before. So if I wanted to reread those ones now I’d have to purchase per chapter. I’m a believer is supporting the arts especially if it’s somehow making its way back to the creator. All in all I’m disappointed. This app is very well organized and has a wide variety to choose from. I’m already paying for a year and if I read what I wanted to without a care in the world of cost I’d be looking at hundreds of dollars a year. I have a feeling I’ll be canceling my subscription because what’s even the point in that if I have to throw money at in app purchases as well?

    I initially came across Manta via Instagram when they were advertising for Under the Oak Tree S1. I eventually downloaded the app because the story seemed interesting and not long after became a monthly subscriber. I was really excited when I opened up the app and realized that there were many new stories that had been added. Then I realized that those stories required gems. It wasn’t a big deal until I realized how much money I would have to spend on gems to read a complete story. It’s not worth the money. I would rather Manta add another monthly tier level to their plan options. Since then I have found another comic app that is completely free and have decided to end my subscription with Manta and delete the app. Maybe I’ll check back in a few months to see if there are any changes.

    Unfortunately, I will be deleting once my subscription is up. It is sad because I used to love it and would recommend but not anymore. What is available is still great but with the new update that includes the gems that makes you spend even more money, it ruined the experience. Would be nice if you could hide the ones that require gems, at this point it feels more like advertisement to have it when you don’t want it and are already spending a decent amount on a subscription. What a shame. Will be trying to find something new.

    I subscribed under the understanding that I would be able to read all the comics that app has to offer. It has a lot of good ones so for an avid reader it seemed like a good deal. Well lo and behold I get to a promising comic and get a few chapters in and then it asks me to pay for the next chapter with gems. Why? I already pay monthly to read these comics, why do I need to pay even more to read specific ones? Like I was reading one story and after 3 chapters there was no way to read the next chapter without paying gems. Not sure if it’s a glitch or not. It’d be great if it was and was fixed so I could actually read the stories I’m already paying monthly for.

    I have been a manta user for many years now, and for a long time I thought it was the best comic app on the market. Hundreds of comics available for a very reasonable monthly subscription. Then they started rolling out novels, then the novels started to cost money. I thought that made sense since it is a comic app, of course novels will be extra. Now you have to pay for certain comics as well. Not just pay a little extra but pay per episode, just like every other basically unusable money hungry comic app. I got interested in a comic on the app and went ahead and tried to pay for the full thing with the “gems” and it would cost about 70 USD. 70 USD for ONE web comic???? The gems system is just a way to squeeze money from the apps patrons. It’s just not worth it anymore, like why am I paying a monthly subscription fee for manta “unlimited” if I can’t even access the full app without breaking the bank. I think after I finish my current reads I’ll be unsubscribing from manta unlimited and deleting the app. So sad to see an app I’ve enjoyed for years go to the way of being just as money hungry as the rest.

    I would rate this application five stars due to my strong appreciation for it; however, there are several issues that require attention. The subscription model presents a significant challenge for me. There is a considerable amount of content that I wish to access, but I am unable to do so because of the subscription requirement, particularly concerning the complete series. I am currently enjoying a specific series, yet I am unable to complete it due to the persistent prompt that states, “Subscribe now to binge for free,” which appears for all the series I am following. Although some series are available at no cost, not all episodes are included. I would be grateful if you could consider revising this aspect of the application. Such a change would greatly enhance my experience.
