  • Best Reading App

We started teaching my son to read right before his 4th birthday because he’s always had an interest in reading and books. We tried the book Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, but we found it was a bit outdated and didn’t also help with basic letter recognition alongside phonics. I started seeing ads for Reading.com everywhere and when I looked into it found it was exactly what we were looking for. We are a screen free household for the most part so we were a little hesitant to try the app for that reason, but this is the best way to use an app for learning. We love that a parent has to be involved in order to use the app so we’re not just sitting our son in front of a tablet with no direction. Even when he plays the reinforcement games, I don’t have to worry about him coming across something he isn’t supposed to thanks to this app being ad free. Because of the effectiveness of it, we will continue to use this app until the last lesson and will also use it for our other child when she’s older. The only note I have is that it would be nice to have a parent’s log of the dates your child has completed the lessons. We homeschool and I try to log the dates we have completed they lessons for our notes, but sometimes I forget to log it and can’t remember when we did the lessons. I used to get an email every time we completed a lesson, which helped, but the emails stopped coming. Either way, an in-app log would be convenient.

I downloaded the app and it is super friendly to create both your children’s account and yours as a parent. Love, that it is not only an app to learn to read, but also to spend time together with our children. Also, I am amazed with the kind of knowledge check it has through games! it actually worked to check if he really learned and I was thrilled. Recommended 100%

I love the structure of the app, the science-based reading strategies, the variety of activities, and the parental involvement. As a teacher, this is exactly what I was looking for to help my son learn to read!

I have been really wanting some extra time with my son, before he heads to kindergarten, so I decided to put preschool into my own hands! Not only does he find reading.com so fun, but he is ACTUALLY READING! So pleased and impressed with this program.

My son is 8 and is still having a hard time reading. We tried this app a week ago and things he was struggling with (like blending sounds) is noticeable better. I love that they do a first lesson and then an assessment to find what lesson to continue on. Another thing that is helpful is that the books hide the picture before reading. This forces him to actually read. In normal books he would “guess” the words based on the picture and not actually read. My son said the app feels like a video game and he loves video games!!! And he actually wants to do it with me. I am so thankful I saw the ad on TikTok. I hope they expand to older ages to increase reading comprehension for older elementary and middle school. Hopeful that by the end of the summer my son will be on reading level.

I never write reviews but I had to after seeing how much my 5-year-old has progressed since we started using this app. He started kindergarten last year and was falling behind, he was selected for instructional support in reading following an evaluation conducted by the school. I was worried but also skeptical at how effective this app would be. I cannot believe how much progress he has made since we started this. He is actually reading on his own now. We made the app a part of our bedtime routine and 1 month later, I got an email from his instructional support teacher saying he has improved in all areas of assessment. I only wish there was a similar app for math concepts and numbers that followed this format.

I have downloaded a ton of apps for phonics, reading and math and most of them are very poor. Reading.com was a fantastic app. The phonics approach, the way the sounds are broken down, the repetition is fantastic. The build in the learning makes a lot of sense. Additionally the extra games and printables are a nice add.

I cannot say enough great things about reading.com. The growth my daughter has made is incredible. I love how the program is so systematic. She went from learning letter sounds to reading so quickly. Now that she’s finished she is so advanced. She is entering first grade in September with such an advantage and I couldn’t be happier.
