Apple seems to miss out on teaching people easily like this for more complicated and detailed things like creating an actual app. Missing out on things that are important to make your app live like Xcode tutorials, plists, git repos, etc. stuff like that is mainly hidden on reddit boards and not an app made by apple. (Unless I didnt see it yet)

Thank you for the update. The app no longer crashes when I download playgrounds. I can now use this to teach my son programming.

How do I swipe through the tutorial items on macOS?

Crashes during editing or “run my code” sometimes, may lose your work even though it automatically back things up in the cloud from time to time. A recent update also refuses to access the existing playground book (actively used till the update happens) with “invalid playground book”.

Another release and horizontal scrolling still does not work when selecting lessons on either my Intel iMac or m1 macBook. How can I use this to learn Swift if lessons are inaccessible?
  • New Document Browser

The new document browser on the Mac version is a real disappointment since it doesn’t work like the iPad version. In order to access the majority of your files at all you have to use Open in the menu system to navigate to your folders and then verify that you actually want to open the file. It’s a real step back in usability and clearly no one bothered to even vet this. Horrible.
  • Would be nice if Apple would let us download

Previously installed, just trying to get the Jan 30, 2025 update, always fails after trying to download and install. No word from Apple, they just let it hang out there as an available download so we can be frustrated when it fails. So much for Apple dev Q/A…

It’s hard to imagine that this is software developed by Apple.

Didn’t this app used to be called Swift Playgrounds?
