  • Great app, BUT…

This app *really* needs the ability to set preferences so that it (a) uses the external browser automatically when opening articles, and (b) doesn’t automatically use reader mode in the external browser. Having to click through to the external browser and *then* disable the reader view is unnecessary work, every time you want to read something in full. It’s especially bad after the also completely unnecessary “redirecting …” grey-screen overlay. These 3 steps combine to make such a major flow-breaker and UX annoyance that it drops the rating from 5 to 3 stars. It’s frustrating because the core app and the idea are great, the categorisation, quality flagging and the blind spot stuff are excellent, and it’s otherwise absolutely worth 5 stars. It just really needs to have these preferences, and to have this flow fixed. The full-screen grey-out while “redirecting” to (loading, surely?) article pages is especially unnecessary, as it’s very clear a page is being opened from the fact that a browser view’s opening. That should really go, too. Check out Ivory or Bluesky. They both do this just fine and much more simply - you just tap the link and you get the regular view in the external browser. Thanks!

The error was my mistake. I’ve changed my rating to 4 stars because I like the product. Very useful

Finally! This is an incredibly informative news app. The price is generous and fair considering what you get. Very impressive!

Finally a news source where I can decide what’s true or at least be able to get all the facts.

I first heard of Ground News on YouTube and thought it sounded nice, but not something I would pay for. Then after using it for a few months, I couldn’t imagine using any other news platform. The idea that all the news I could be interested in was all in one place, and broken down by political leanings and factuality, was nothing short of amazing.

I paid for their Vantage plan, and after two months with the service just in the background it’s more an annoyance than a help. A lot of the articles that popup are the usual clickbait (with the extreme headlines that got me to STOP reading the news in my teens) rather than actually informative. To reply to their response to this review; I KNOW THERE’s no editorializing to the headlines! My problem is for the notifications theres no way to pick which kind shows up! It’s only their own “suggested” filtering which may as well be editorializing! Either let me pick what sorting method I want (I’m not sure why it’s not factual by default if that’s what you’re going for) or this is pretty much just a glorified newspaper or RSS feed. My problem isn’t just the headlines, it’s that the notifications STILL show only the most clickbait headline and you have to go into the app to even get the factual headline. What am I paying for then? Also, even though I follow a majority of different topics in various different fields and areas the news this spits out leans EXTREMELY political! I get almost nothing but political news! I get that we’re in a big election year for America, but there are other things going on! I already hear the election stories it gives me BEFORE this gives them to me because I follow people on YouTube (It’s where I heard about this. I’m really starting to think the marketing for this is stronger than the actual app itself) Edit: Oh, also the email they send out is just as if not worse. It’ll have mostly political based news that both sided might have “missed” and then one tiny little section at the end that’s labels “relevant for you” that’s just local news article (which for where I live means sports, which IS NOT RELEVANT FOR ME!) Why am I paying for this?!

I love Ground News. I’m the kind of person who likes to know both sides of every story, and that is SO hard to do. This site tells the same story from all perspectives and provides evidence when it rates things. We need more of this.

Just the news app to navigate the jumble and jungle of the news sphere.
  • Articles are saturated w/Ads & Spam ware

The idea of this site is brilliant, but it fails in execution and its poor user interface. So far, I’m not getting the diversity of reporting that I’d hoped for. That goes for not only the sources but also the topics. I’d hoped for a greater variety of both domestic and international news coverage. I’m currently an annual subscriber but likely will not renew as I’m very disappointed with the disruptive quantity of persistent ads and constant distracting pop-ups and spam ware. It often feels like I’ve been lured into a virus ridden click bait rabbit hole on a Facebook Ad. I shouldn’t have to refuse so many site cookie acknowledgments that I can’t complete articles. It’s so bad that I am often blocked from completing stories. I had expected far more after paying $60 for an annual subscription. I complained to Customer Service (requesting a refund) and they just directed me to their reader tool.
