And if you’re wondering what tech reviews say about Gemini 2, wonder no more: we’ve gathered some of them below. WHAT MAC EXPERTS SAY “I’ve been an active user of MacPaw’s Gemini software since its inception, and Gemini 2’s release today has made me fall in love with it all over again. In just the initial scan, Gemini 2 found more files and more places where I could intelligently clear and save space on my Mac.”
- 9to5mac “If you want to clean up your Mac, but are trepidatious about digging around in your files and accidentally deleting something important, Gemini 2 has a lot to offer and makes the whole process very simple.” -
iMore “With Gemini 2 there’s little reason to fear duplicates. It has a polished, intuitive user interface and the brains to differentiate copies from originals by testing them against nearly a dozen different parameters. It’s also much faster, especially compared to digging through thousands of files and folders the old-fashioned way.” -
MacWorld SUBSCRIPTION AND PRICING Some features are only partially available for non-paying users and can be unlocked with a Yearly Access plan. • Horrible design

I ran the scan and then when I looked at “Review Results”, I was stunned by what I saw. On any hierarchical file system, the full, complete name of a file is the full path name, starting from some suitable starting point. They should have been thinking, “What is the cleanest and easiest way to display the full path name of the file?” It is obvious that they never even asked this question. What was shown to me was row upon row consisting almost entirely of tiny folder icons, separated by tiny right-arrow characters. What possible purpose is there for showing the user a screen full of little folder icons and arrows, instead of showing the full name of the file or leaf node? In order to see the name of the file, you have to move the mouse cursor over the individual components of the full file name. As you do this, the individual components of the file name, corresponding to branch nodes of the hierarchy, expand to reveal the hidden name for that one component of the full name. I honestly do not think that I have seen anything this patently stupid. Why on earth would it even occur to anyone to do something like this? Why couldn’t they have hired one or two grownups to keep the children from doing this kind of thing?

I bought this app a couple of years ago. Never used it much, but whem I did it was good. Mow I go to use it once more and I am unable to. Looks like I need to start a yearly subscription to the app that I already paid for. They have made it un-usable without a supscription. F U Macpaw, you greedy S-O-Bz

  • Quick Look

I downloaded and tried GeminiII on my photos first. It seems to do a good job, but I have a feature request which might be pretty easy to implement. The first thing I did after purging some photos was to look at what was deleted. From the 'Moved to Trash' folder, it would be nice to have a gallery view which would show the deleted items without having to select them one by one. The developers might also consider showing the deleted items next to the 'duplicate' that remains. Just to give the customer a visual reinforcement that no mistake occurred. 3 stars simply because I've only owned this for about 30 minutes.
  • Constant crashes - unusable

Not only does it take hours and hours to scan your directory, but it constantly freezes and crashes once you choose more than 4 files to delete, and then after force-quitting the app, everything is erased and you have to start over. Instead of this app, just go to ChatGPT and have it create a script to find duplicates and put the pathnames into an excel spreadsheet. You'll need to go into each path when you want to delete, but it will save you WEEKS of work that you would end up wasting with this app.
  • Trial Version is Only a Demo Sans Full Functionality

I installed Gemini2 as a "Trial" to see if I thought it was worth the fee. The scan process for duplicate files was surprisingly quick. Then I spent over an hour reviewing the results from the scan to verify it was actually working as I expected. It did a good job identifying duplicate files and automatically marking ones for removal/relocation.. After I verified the marked files were the ones I wanted to relocate I clicked the button to relocate them to a folder. Much to my surprise/anger I was notified I would have to purchase the app before it would make the changes! OK, I get it. they're not in this business for charity. Just tell me up front I can't actually use the 'Trial' app's full functionality unless I majke the purchase and DON'T CALL A DEMO VERSION A 'TRIAL.' So now they'll have me repeat the whole process as well as hand over $19.99/yr. If this price was a perpetual license with updates for maybe only a year ... OK. But as a yearly subscription fee.... respberries! I don't like being fooled. I have wayyy too much work to get done. But, I'm taking the time to write this review so others don't to fall victim to this nonsense like I did.
  • Very good - but still needs a few features

This is the best of those I've tried. However there's still a couple features and one issue that I'd like to see addressed. Features: (1) Would love to be able to search for duplicate files by name or file extention or type. (2) Would love to have it find empty folders for deletion, and (3) would like to be able to select at once all the smallest size files among the duplicates. And Fix: (a) would like to understand why files that are clearly not the same size are still showing as duplicates
  • Far worse since Gemini 1

This app has gotten far worse since the last version. They removed the ability to select on duplicates in a certain folder or drive - instead opting for confusing "Auto-selecting" features. The app also takes up a huge amount of RAM to run, making it hard to do while working on other things.
  • Awful, deleted files with no info, options DO NIT BUY

Worst product yet, took hours to scan folder and after payiong $20 it proceeded to delete who knows what, with no options for what it was doing. Best part is that I am out $20 and it jammed background items into the system. Couldnt just sell a product, now it needs to be a annual subscritpion of garbage. What a waste of time and money HORRIBLE
